This is the freshest take on O'Carolan I've heard in a really long time. That counterpoint with the guitar is just lovely!

Nice to see this one played so well. Was one of the first tunes I ever learned in the 70s. There even existed very fine german lyrics to it. Thanks

What’s with the butchers aprons hanging up in the background?

I see little point in bringing ugly 19th and 20th century politics into music such as this. Especially, given that Colonel John Irwin was a soldier in the army who fought in Flanders during the early 18th century and, what's more, his family had been Williamites during the troubled years of 1688-91. In fact, during the Williamite wars they were actually given shelter from Jacobites by a local Catholic family, the Croftons. So yes, whilst this historic melody is certainly Irish, all history (Irish history especially) is much more muddy and complicated than we may wish it to be. Yet, despite all this background, O'Carolan was fond enough of the Colonel to write this beautiful piece for him. Perhaps we could learn something from them both and try to live and let live before decrying the "butcher's apron".

@@JAOH67 Or what? I'm just pointing out a fact. You were the one being needlessly aggressive in the first instance.
