Ha wait until you learn about the rest! There are lot more states out there that exist in extreme conditions. Hell, even the changes in the early universe can be considered as phase transitions!

Thanks. Also, binary and tertiary states exist. At certain conditions water can exist as a solid, vapor, and liquid, all at the same temp and pressure. Called Triple points.

Thank you for sharing information about Plasma, how plasma heating can be used for decomposing methane to Hydrogen, with portable setup and less power consumption, will appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance

Sorry this is way over my head! I'd start by googling this paper: "Hydrogen production from methane using an RF plasma source in total nonambipolar flow"

That guy was the CEO of Captain Corrosion xD Anyhow, this short clip took ages to make as we had to combine different programs in order to get the result. Not only did we animate the lightning and the explosion but also how the clouds gathered prior to the strike. Thanks for watching!

It is very interesting. May i know sth about plasma? what are the any other applications of plasma ? and then the plasma used in surface treatment of electronic circuit chips is cold or thermal. Which one?
@CaptainCorrosion
@CaptainCorrosion 6 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for the questions! In electronics, I can currently think of a few more possibilities to utilize plasma. As you probably know, some components of modern electronic devices are thin films that are already in the nanometric scale. The quality of such deposited films however depends on the surface, where it is deposited. This surface obviously has to be cleaned prior to deposition and this can be done with plasma. Furthermore, plasma can also be used to create the necessary functional groups on a material that are necessary for depositing thin films on it. And then there is the deposition process itself - there are actually several thin film deposition methods that include plasma in at least one step. Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and pulsed laser deposition are two examples that you might want to check out.

It seem like it would take more energy to make plasma than it would put out , how do they plan to use it in a propulsion system ?
@CaptainCorrosion
@CaptainCorrosion 8 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for the question! If you are referring to a fusion reactor then it may indeed take a while before it becomes usable (if at all). However, an ion propulsion is one of the most efficient systems available for long duration space missions. Yes, it does cost a bit of fuel but compared to chemical propulsion, it is still a lot more efficient. In an ion propulsion system they ionize gas (e.g. Xenon) by bombarding it with accelerated electrons. A high voltage is applied at the same time and this causes the positive ions to move towards the grid at the rear end of the propulsion. Due to a clever design, many of these ions exit the spacecraft at very high speeds and as a result the spacecraft moves in the opposite direction (forward!).

Do you think they'll ever consider using hydrogen, most science-fiction novels believe that will be next source of fuel? I asked this question mostly because xenon seems to be harder to obtain for general use .
@CaptainCorrosion
@CaptainCorrosion 8 жыл бұрын
I dont think Hydrogen can be used for ion propulsion since you cant really store a large amount of it in a bottle - over time it simply goes through the wall of the container as H is very small. Hydrogen in its normal form is also rather not suitable to fuel fusion reactors and instead deuterium, tritium and helium-3 are more likely to be used in the future.

Hello! I hear the five states of matter for the first time. Please explain a little for me. As I know there are four states of matter.
@CaptainCorrosion
@CaptainCorrosion 3 жыл бұрын
In school people mostly learn about solid, liquid and gas phase. Two other common states of matter would be plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate. The latter applies to gases at extremely low temperatures (close to absolute zero).
