Applying the plaster to our cement block walls takes time and it's important to get the plaster the correct consistency. It's also important to use the right mortar mix. That will depend on what your wall is used for and our wall is pulling double duty.
This wall is a retaining wall and serves as the back wall for our storage area inside the garage.
The plaster for this cement wall needs to be waterproof in order to keep water from passing through the wall. BUT, remember, the most important thing about a retaining wall is to make sure it can drain.
So, we'll make sure our retaining wall can drain around and NOT through the wall.
We'll add a couple layers of waterproof paint as well. YOU DO NOT want to take the chance of letting water penetrate your wall. If water gets into your cement block walls...you'll have a problem with mold for the rest of your life.
Then we worked on the concrete beam and it's important that this is RIGHT. This concrete beam will support a lot of weight and hold the metal plates. I-beams will be welded onto the metal plates in order to build our first-floor support system.
