Because the combined angle at that point cancels out, if the angle at B (in the beam case) is theta, and the angle at A (in the sway case) is also theta, we can assume that the net angle at B doesn't change and remains 90 degrees. I did just notice that you wrote that 10 months ago but hope it helps anyway
