In the army, some of the ex-cons doing national service after their sentence, used a coke bottle filled with compressed foam rubber from their mattresses on a .223 automatic rifle. Action movies, TV, and videogames have prepped the soil of our culture with an adequite blight to sprout the rotten seeds of the crooked mainstream press establishment and our dishonest authoritarian federal lawmakers. People rile against things which they don't fully understand, or consider the providence of. Our rights are in jeapordy, hanging in the balance at the hands of the oversocialized and emotionally unstable. This is not just Gen Z (my generation), or Millenials. This is Gen X, and Baby Boomers as well. We have nearly 100 years of slow creep towards this world we find ourselves in now. For every person who gloats about how they had it hard in their childhood, having to use landlines and how smoking indoors was common, there is an old batty aunt who posts minion memes at work. At the same rate that information accessibility increases, the ability, emotional maturity, ability to form thought, and attention span of the average person decreases. All ages. I do not understand the general ignorance around me. I'm seemingly just as lazy. I watch the shows, play the games, post the memes, but for God's sake before I rise against something so easy to learn about, I learn about it. It takes... what? 5-10 minutes to not be a loudmouthed fool? Can the majority of people not spare that to figure out the most basic information about firearms? How does the common person stand for this blatant flaunting of our constitutional rights out of fear born of ignorance?

@@itshaze834 not enough gases escape from the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. It's the rapidly expanding gas that makes the boom. If what you want me to believe was true everyone firing revolvers would be suffering serious burns. Silenced guns firing normal ammunition do not go pffft like in the movies. You have to fire subsonic rounds in order to get a really quiet shot. It's the rapidly expanding gas that makes the noise and you can't get that expansion out of the little gap between the cylinder and barrel. If you want a good silencer then push the barrel of any gun up against a body and pull the trigger. Or the classic pillow will do the trick. This video it was quiet until the bottle blew off the end of the gun. A two liter works wonders for 1 shot, although I was never stupid enough to try silencing a 357 magnum.

@@FrithonaHrududu02127 ive never fired them, but the nagant 1895 predates the kgb by 59 years. When the hammer is cocked, the cylinder is pushed forward and makes contact with the back of the barrel creating the seal necessary for a suppressor to do its intended purpose. This design feature, coupled with the nagants unique cartridge, was made to increase muzzle velocity by preventing gas from escaping out of a gap between cylinder and barrel. It was a complete accident that this feature also makes it ideal for a suppressor, which wasnt invented until about 7 years later. I... I mean "My friend"... did this with a heavily modified 10/22, and filled the bottle with a combination of memory foam, and grocery bags... Worked for about 20 rounds before it started to give out. Might be cheap, but certainly can be effective in the right hands, and the right circumstances. PS. has to be a semi auto for that to work. gas escapes around the cylinder.

It won’t work with revolvers because of the open cylinder design, which allows gas (and sound) to escape out of the sides. That’s why the Russian Nagant revolver can actually be suppressed, because it’s one of the only revolvers where gas doesn’t escape out of the sides of the cylinder. As a result, you can make a cool suppressor out of an oil can for that revolver

I feel like that movie trope could work. It's probably based on old oil filter surpressors. You'd just need to fill the bottle with the proper materials and then use something that doesn't have huge soundholes all around the frame of the gun. Like something that isn't a revolver.

You need to cut out the bottom of the bottle and use subsonic cartridges. You also need something to capture gas and sound escaping from the cylinder gap and primer gas from the rear of the cylinder too. These silencer demonstrations are not going to be very effective with bullets over 1100 feet per second and are better under 900 fps.

While there has been suppressors for revolvers made, they usually need to cover the cylinder chamber to actually suppress most of the noise along with the barrel. So usually it's so over sized that it'd be better to get a normal glock or something with threaded barrels instead of a revolver suppressor. Jesus Christ thanks for the likes!

Depends on the bullet's velocity. Suppressors work best when the ammo you're shooting is lower velocity, ideally subsonic. This is because the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier is also a factor in noise reduction. So you would want a bullet (no matter the size) that is subsonic or lower velocity. Personally, I think 9x19 would be a subpar choice of ammunition type to suppress, because the 9mm's strength lies in its velocity, which leads to more reliable target penetration and bullet expansion/mushrooming, and this is NOT something that you would want to sacrifice for noise reduction when there are better bullets for the job. But that's just my opinion.

For starters, it’s basically impossible to suppress a revolver unless there is no cylinder gap. Not only that but a plastic bottle would be more likely to make the sound louder as it builds up a lot of pressure really quickly and pops.

Having reloaded plenty of ammo and noting the muzzle energies listed, I can say a good deal of power is lost because of the cylinder gap. Takes a substantially greater powder charge to overcome this loss compared to a autoloader.

Thats a revolver, where gas and sound also escapes from around the Cylinder so even if this gun had a threaded barrel and you attached an actual suppressor it'd be only so quiet compared to anything else. Even semi autos have gas and sound escape from the breach with a suppressor attached. You either need a modded breach to lock it closed or a bolt action rifle to get maximum efficiency out of a suppressor.
