This video is about rebuilding and cleaning a plastic carburetor off of a 1993 Evinrude 225 hp outboard. I have had this motor for years and had a lot of problems with it in the beginning. I had to learn to repair the motor my self because of the high cost of taking it to someone. I found that a lot of people that repair the motors really don't know as much as we give them credit for. I found that if I follow the service manual, I can do as good if not better than some of the service personnel. One of the reasons is because I can take my time. I am not being pushed to the next job. I check and set each part to the factory spec. I did have the carburetors rebuilt professionally and when I got it back It would idle and that is all. I am not saying anything bad about service repair people. There are a lot of very good people out there. It is hard to get a appointment with them. You can get in to see your doctor faster than get you out board fixed. I am posting this video just let everyone see how much work it takes just to rebuild just one carburetor. My outboard has six of them!

Nice video I have to do same thing with my Johnson 200. Johnson and evinrude are the same. The parts are interchangeable for the ones that didn't know that. I will have to rebuild the carbs myself cause none of the marines near me have open appointments 🤷‍♂️

I like to rebuild my carbs because I can take my time and make sure everything is set right to the book. Not everybody will always do that. I have had professional rebuild my carbs years ago and the float was so far off when the boat would start to raise the bow a little the engine would shut off. Then on the other hand if it is not right you have to take the blame. Stay Safe.

At 8;08 you do not ever want to take that ball out, that is a manufacturing port that is either used for molding or machining purposes. In fact it is best to use something to seal that ball up better as they start to leak frequently, I myself cover that ball with Motoseal or Epoxy. Also alcohol is hard on many rubbers so it is best to use aerosol carb cleaner and compressed air but when using a compressor you must be careful too.

1989 Evinrude 120 V4 Pulled it out of the Barn Yesterday to go Spring salmon fishing and it fired up and ran, but no power, couldn't get on top of it. So I trolled all day with my trolling motor, couldn't let a good day go to waste, even though I didn't catch anything. Also noticed a drop of fuel was leaking from behind, above the lower unit cowling? So in a panic without ever working on this beast, I was hoping a kind individual that had plastic carbs would be generous enough to share their knowledge. Bingo! I found you. Like yourself, I'm tired of taking it to a shop and waiting for weeks, if not more than a month to get my boat back, not to mention the cost. I would think this job of replacing 4 carb kits at the shops would run $500+? I've used your help for my trolling motor replacing the carbs, thought this bigger motor would be harder, but is't easier. So waiting for 3 new carb kits, had on already, same parts number you used and i'll then I;ll inspect for leaks and hose line fittings to make sure they're secure and then cross my fingers and drop her in the water this weekend for another shot at it. With out you tube I'm an idiot. With You tube I'm a genius! Thank you so much for you patience and step by step instructions. I'll support your channel the best i can. V/R

Back to the trouble shooting drawing board. 1.starts great. 2. idles great. 3. runs, but still no top end speed, its like running at 80%. New fuel lines and filters last summer. stored under cover all year here in the NW. (got 62 inches of rain since last Oct. 1, yep you heard it right 5 feet.) bought new oil water separator fuel filter. use only non ethanol. the inline filter is clear as day, can't see any debris. Changed all 4 spark plug wires and the Coil test is between speck 260. It's got to be a fuel issue, not getting enough. spoke to a boat shop guy, said the "jets" might be plugged. Huh? I said. I just changed the carb kit. So.... I'm tearing back into the carbs, maybe something was not installed right when I did the job. All I know is I'm not taking it to a shop, unless I can absolutely help. I'll check for water in the system too. I'm on a mission!

Awesome video brother! Do you have any idea how the bowl is vented on these carbs? I have one that no matter how much I clean it, no matter how float is adjusted, it bubbles fuel up the main tube into the venturi at idle. None of the other carbs do it, so I suspect a venting issue. Thanks again for an excellent resource in this video!!!

I am not sure on this one!

@R1Kyle Жыл бұрын
Look at the video at 3:46 seconds, see that L shaped pipe with the hole in it, that is the vent tube. On some carbs there is a L shaped fitting that plugs into the carb and it faces directly at the mounting flange but has some space between the two pieces.

Excellent tutorial! Curious what symptom led you to rebuild the carbs or did you just rebuild to ensure they were optimal?
@OmFishing
@OmFishing 3 жыл бұрын
The first time I rebuild the carbs was lack of power and hard start. Now I rebuild in the spring just to be sure. Carbs and spark plugs. I will change spark plugs two to three times a season. The savings in fuel pay for the plugs.
@R1Kyle
@R1Kyle Жыл бұрын
@@OmFishing Changing your plugs that often is beyond ridiculous as they do not go bad or wear out that fast, when they wear you can see metal erosion on the spark areas. If you are changing them because they are fouling you should re jet for better mixtures.

What is the pressure for the pump to go into the carburettors? If you want to put a electronic fuel pump on it
@OmFishing
@OmFishing 4 ай бұрын
I have found that motors with a carburetor are low pressure pump 3-5 pounds. I think the high pressure pumps are for fuel injection. I would check the test pressure for your motor.

I like to buy OEM parts whenever I can get them. I looked at boatnet.com and found the rebuild kit you are looking for it was part number 0438996 the cost is $31.00.
