Been watching a lot of your videos and you make boatbuilding and repair look easy when I’m sure it’s just the opposite. Your like the Bob Vila of shipwrights lol Really enjoying the videos

Change the channel name to plastic boat. It isn’t that much more difficult to steam while oak frames. They will hold their shape and last another 100 years if cared for property. So much for maintaining the integrity of this once “wooden” boat. Next they will be sheathing it with fiberglass.

My concern is that plastic has no strength of it's own but its viscosity. It is basically a super-cooled fluid and will flow in time with stress. Sounds to me like one more in a long line of bad uses for plastics.

This type of high-density plastic is extremely resilient. That framing will outlast the wood. Look up all the 1000's of things it's used for. You think this shipbuilding expert would use something that isn't up to snuff? As he said, it's been used in ship building for ages, with full success. Please do some research.

This plastic is not a replacement for wood it will not hold form.

Yup!! Get it cold, it stiffens. Get it hot, it soften. Get it over 400 degrees, it's fluid. Get it on fire and the smoke will kill you!! It degasses and loses strength over time. It's why plastics factories are constantly going. The shit is cheap but it wears quickly!!

It's a fancy acronym for the cheapest plastic. I don't like the idea. But who am I? I only have 44 years of experience with all types of materials. I ran a plastic factory. Plastic constantly degasses and erodes it's strength. That is why everyone tested in the USA so far has plastic toxicity. Tupperware!!!

Hi Louis, could a stern log be replaced with HDPE? Best regards Braden
