@#DOCTORYOUN, You are wrong about the scars left by a tummy tuck. I had a kidney transplant and if you look it up in a medical book or even online? Kidney transplants are done in the front of the stomach area and surgically situated next the bladder. The surgeon cut me the same way you would for a tummy tuck. Along my bikini line and thankfully tucked my little fupa aka wide area of fat above the pubic region. My scar was very thick w/ drainage bags. A body sock and all the accoutrement one needs when having a kidney transplant / fupa tuck. It has been 5 years since and my scar is almost undetectable. I'd have to lie flat- completely stretched out in bright sunlight and still the scar is paper thin.

It was a horrible show. Plus, a lot of the changes we saw in her were due to outfit, posture, makeup, hair styling, lighting, etc. She could have just gotten a tummy tuck, worked out a bit, and gotten a style makeover, and had nearly as dramatic of a transformation. Not to mention, some therapy to help with her poor self-image and mental state. All that surgery was so unnecessary. The messages this show sends are so toxic.

Absolutely! They were very careful in every "before" scene or image that she was without makeup, unflattering ponytail, sad face, and casual or even unflattering clothes. The tummy tuck seemed like something she really wanted and also some work on her teeth. Everyone acted like she was monstrous looking before. And if she was... well we are all monstrous when every attempt is made to make us appear monstrous through lighting, bad pics, sad expressions, and crappy clothes.

Beach body does the same thing with the before and after. You might notice that no one's feet are shown in their promos (unless they were posted by actual people on their accounts)? Thats because in the before they are flat footed and asked to push their body weight to the front of their feet. It's crazy just how having correct posture, makeup, and how you face the camera can make a difference on your appearance. They handed this poor woman a bra with no support and the most unflattering baggy underwear and made her pose with her shoulders hunched for all America to see.

The saddest thing about this is that bellydancers spend years training their abdominal muscles to be lengthened and learning to isolate different areas in the abdomen. This surgery probably resulted in her not being able to do a lot of the bellydance moves. I know a lady who had a tummy tuck as part of her breast reconstruction after breast cancer and she really struggles to do a lot of the moves now because she cannot use her abs the way she used to and the whole area is super stiff and tight.

I watched this other gal react to this show. To be fair, I was absentmindedly watching it, but I couldn't for the life of me, tell a difference between any of the women after they got their surgery done. They all looked pretty much the same in the grand scheme of things. It's like the instagram models who have gotten so much work done that they all have the Kylie Jenner face. They are no longer unique individuals. It's sad. I think if you're wealthy enough or if you have a horrible insecurity about a specific part of your body, it's fine to get that tweaked, but when you literally change everything about you to look like whatever style of body or face is in fashion for us women, which is ridiculous already, it's just sad. Everyone has a unique face and features and big lips don't look good on everyone, neither does a button nose, and they are not the only thing that makes someone beautiful. I had a wonderful plastic surgeon who did a breast reduction for me in 1999. That was 24 years ago and after removing 9 3/4 pounds of excess breast, I still look lovely at 75 years old. I just wish I could have combined it with the tummy tuck. A great Doctor is such a blessing. After saying that, I still can't imagine going through all she did at once.

Dentist here and i have to correct you, Doctor: the reason her teeth are short is obviously the nightly grinding and the possibility of lengthening the teeth by shortening the gum is absolutely impossible as dentine will be revealed which is covered with nerv endings resulting in hypersensibility. this is the reason why some teeth are sensitive to cold when there are recessions to the gum. There is the possibilty of teeth lengthening with crowns/veners or even composite fillings

Dr. Youn, I really enjoy your perspective and thank you for being so realistic and ethical. And seeing that young woman say she wanted her husband to have something better, I'd like to share something I recently went through: My partner and I love each other for more than our looks, but fitness is also important to him. We established a long time ago the importance of not changing ourselves just for the other's benefit, but challenged each other to be healthier than before. Several months ago he was able to tell me he was disappointed with the commitment I was putting into my fitness and that after recent weight gain, he didn't find me as physically attractive. It broke his heart to say this; I appreciated his honesty, agreed that I hadn't been putting in the effort I promised myself I would, and stepped it up. That week, a half-assed five minutes of the same daily exercises became at least 20 minutes fully focused, alternating between 2 different workout videos, and soon I added light weights into the mix. That was back in August and really all it took to tighten my butt and tummy and build some muscle in my arms, all of which was new to me, and it feels great to accomplish this minor feat every day! It's not my favourite thing to do, but now it's part of the daily routine, and I'm thankful. As for my partner? He was immediately happy to see me jump into the challenge and stick with it, and notices changes in what I can do and how I look that I'm blind to. And he's happier with my shape, but also emphasizes that he finds the fact that I'm "doing it" just as attractive as the result. The point here? Honesty is hard and it can be heartbreaking. Communication is very important even if it hurts. Working towards a goal for oneself can benefit others, and it doesn't have to take much time every day to build towards that goal. Be well, y'all. You can do it! ✌️🍍

Apparently, a lot of the contestants had breakdowns when they looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize themselves, but they were contractually obligated to reshoot. How can any of those butchers live with themselves and continue being on such a show after seeing what they’d done like that? It’s disgusting.

I used to watch this show when it aired and even then, something didn't sit right with me. Watching clips almost 20 years later, I'm horrified that this was even a thing. The "needing" plastic surgery, the extreme weight loss combined with fat shaming, and parading these women around after as if they were dolls that got fixed is disgusting. Thank you Dr Youn for being the antithesis of this show's whole mentality.

I believe people need to love themselves the way they are. This woman was more beautiful before the surgeries then after. Only the belly area was better in my opinion. In such shows psychologists are a must. People such traumas need to be healed from inside first. Worst thing is this is being passed to the youngsters. In my country girls in their 15-16 already have lip fillers ,lashes ,brows ,hair extensions ,some breast implants. People start believing they will be good enough only if they fix this and that. First seek for some mental help n once with ur clear mind ,then you can do what you want. Its just my opinion.

6:10 His words are deepening her low selfsteam, we already are very, very conseous about every little bump and crave, even if other people see them, we do, we do and every time someone mentions them, it’s even worse……and I think that’s why these “shows” have existed and are popular; for someone unhappy with herself overall, hearing about that transformation it’s a miracle, and you probably want the most you can get done during the show. I kind of wanted to be on that show and I was planning everything I was going to be able to do, once “transformed”……but then I saw some updates and not everyone was happy or could keep whatever they had added or fix, so without money and almost zero auto image, I don’t know how I’d feel……probably happy on one side but a looser on the other, because I had to “buy” those improvements…..but at the same time, if that’s the only way we have 🤷♀️ all my life my physical image has been a problem and even though I’ve always been clean and tried to look “my best” with what I had, but never was enough so I gave up, i’m done with the battle, especially because it’s not that necessary for me anymore, people that I wanted to work for and give them the best, are not here anymore so…..but yeas, every time you here someone else pointing what you already know it’s like pushing you dawn even more…… Thank you for your reactions Dr. Youn for your words full of knowledge.

I just watched The Swan for the first time earlier this year. I couldn't get past the first or second episode of the second season. It was dreadful. I felt horribly embarrassed for the contestants although they did nothing wrong. They were shamed for not losing weight quickly enough or not trying harder in the gym which made no sense to me because these women were given individual diets with a certain amount of calories and recovering from recent surgeries -- many of which the women didn't especially want. It was all about the doctors and the opportunity to perform their procedures. For example, most contestants received veneers, brow lifts, liposuction, and tummy tucks. The "coach" was especially annoying, imo. ("If you don't try harder, you'll never make it to the pageant!") As for the pageant itself, how embarrassing! I did look up several of the contestants after the show ended and while some felt it was a positive experience, others were quite vocal about how it definitely was NOT.

I despise the whole pageant part of this show even though I’ve never watched it. I had breast surgery almost 20 years ago and I remember the pain I was in the first few days after it. Combine that pain with the pain of all the other surgeries and I can understand her feeling of “what did I just do to myself?” I’m glad she feels better for herself but I really think they should have had a psychologist on the show to help them understand why and how they felt about themselves. The drs are very good at what they do but I think all of this done so close together was a terrible idea. Thank you Dr. Youn for having the B@lls to call out the show!
