the reason why shots are inaccurate is because the muskets were inaccurate af so I guess the devs decided to give us the pain of what it was like back in the napoleonic era

The problem is the lack of collision and cavalry. This means you’re basically employing skirmisher tactics in every line battle due to how the musket system works.

@@Kole-wb4db Muskets and rifles are seperate things. A musket has no rifling (the spirals) so is less accurate, and it loads the ammunition in at the front. Rifles do have rifling, and can be loaded in at the back or front. Rifled muskets do exist, but these usually are muskets without rifling that had their barrel replaced with a rifled one turning them into a rifled musket, despite no longer being a musket. Muskets have a bullet that can more or less drop down the barrel because it’s smaller than the barrel itself. However in order for a rifle bullet to spin and be more accurate it has to fit on the rifling. This makes it far harder to load a rifle as the bullet gets caught on the rifling. Then is the issue of fouling. One big reason gunpowder has been replaced by other propellants is the fact that when gunpowder is ignited not all of it explodes. The rest becomes fouling, clogging up the gun. This isn’t much of an issue in muskets as it just falls to the bottom and even if it sticks to the sides of the barrel the bullet still has plenty of leeway. In a rifle however the fouling gets stuck on the rifling, making it harder to ram the bullet down. There are reports that after enough shots the fouling could get to the extent that soldiers were only getting one shot every 2 minutes with rifles. There were two main solutions to this. The first was the minie ball. It would start small so you could ram it down easily, but when the gunpowder went off it would expand to catch the rifling and spin. The second was breech loading, loading rifles at the back.

Scot, when in a line aim opposite you. This means everyone on the opposing side is shot once and gives the best casualty rate as opposed to every shot being wasted on the guy with the flag.

when you were missing your shots, it was because you were using freecam, and usually you have to aim more left or right depending on the target that you wish to shoot at. for example if i wanted to shoot at a target on my left, i'd aim more left; if i wanted to shoot at a target to my right, aim more to the right. the rule doesn't apply though when you use shiftlock and aim, in which case you aim for the torso

also: morale is important when aiming, including the bonuses. line bonuses help you aim more better.

Try using shift lock when shooting, when using shift lock it makes the musket shoot directly in the middle of the reticle but when out of shift lock (what you use normally) you have to aim using roughly the top right of the reticle. Not exactly sure why but I think it works.

Hey bro, a bit cheesy but press F9 in game and it opens up a developer console. Now you can minimise the developer console (press the "_" not the "x") and it permanently puts a cursor in the middle of your screen even when you're doing the aiming thing. It lets you aim much more accurately.
