Your knowledge and genuine care of how to design this correctly is very enjoyable. Listening to your wisdom in the design and build was both educational and fun. It also gave me a great heads up on how I should be looking at building my hospital and the care that designers put into it. Thanks for the video and I say keep it up, your videos are great!

I've spent hours watching actual city planners play and explain real life principals to use in Cities' Skylines so I don't know why it never occurred to me there might be a hospital planner that's done a series on Project Hospital. Omg thank u. I'm a 2nd year architecture student, your commentary in the design helped me a lot especially with the placement of E.R that requires to have an access for pedestrian and ambulance. it's really stressing me out, cause the E.R should be easily accessible for pedestrian not only for ambulance, but it also needs to be far away from the lobby to avoid injecting traumas to the OPD patients.

I bought the game 2 days ago, due to my knowledge in Rimworld and Prison architect and having played Theme hospital and two-point hospital in the past, learning and understanding the game was easier than most. However Ive been struggling with the realism, since I do not really have much idea about hospitals irl, and my understanding is mostly from TV shows. Also clinics are supposed to be Outdoor or OPD but here everything is emergency. I don't understand the other deptt. clinics, like how patients decide whether to go to emergency or deptt. clinics. I don't understand the reception mechanics. I definitely don't understand the Emergency Observation room functionality. The game was 'poorly' made with a lot of quality of life problems but one of the most detailed games Ive ever played and I know Im going to sink a lot of time into this. So this video series helped massively with my understanding.
@PlasticSwans3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right, it does take a little getting used to. I had a similar experience with Prison Architect honestly! A lot to learn and the game isn't kind to you whilst you are!

Love the video, looking forward to the next few! I work as a health professional and when I play this game I always try to emulate what my work environment is like. Although my experience is limited to the Operating Theatre/ITU/ICU/A&E Majors. I see the observation ward in the game as A&E minors and the trauma rooms as A&E majors. So I like to keep them separated but on the same floor. This is so patients who collapse in the observation ward aren't too far from the trauma room to be treated appropriately before being transferred to ITU.
@PlasticSwans4 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent insight! I'm currently building radiology for next episode, which is fun with all the shielding protections to replicate. Space is definitely becoming an issue on the ground floor though. When I've finished building and the game runs, I guess putting observation 1 floor up may cause me some problems then.

Actually wood panelling is now often used in Finland in hospital walls because it is natural look and makes the space more inviting. The thing is that is is not actual wood but laminate that is easy to clean.
@PlasticSwans2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I've noticed this more in the UK too. Key thing is they are made of laminated materials that are non-porous and avoid seams.

I recently found this channel and I'm enjoying this series. I always wanted to take a whack at a realistic hospital in game, but I never knew how it would be. Is this build available? I'd love to try it. Also, just curious, do you think you might try fitting the new DLC departments, like Infectious Disease, Traumatology, and Pathology in your build?
@PlasticSwans2 жыл бұрын
I considered putting the build onto the Workshop, but it's so haphazard and doesn't really function too well game-wise, I didn't want to have to deal with all the people complaining about how it didn't work properly! With the DLCs, I think I would have to start from scratch again, which would essentially be a repetitive series. It could work, but not sure there'd be enough interest in it to be honest!

I've been trying to build a totally realistic hospital in this game, but am not having much success because even the "large" plot of land the game gives you is way too small. Most real life hospitals are HUGE!!! I went to the hospital for surgery not too long ago and they took me into this huge maze of curtained rooms where they prepped me for surgery and I waited for my turn that would fill up this whole space. I woke up in a room on one of the upper floors where they kept me overnight. Except for the pain, it was actually a pleasant experience to be waited on hand and foot, be able to order anything I want from the kitchen 24/7, and get given narcotics whenever I asked, lol 🙂 IMO, it doesn't make much sense to put the emergency room on the ground floor, then the operating rooms on the 2nd floor and the PACU on the 3rd floor, radiology on the 4th floor, etc., etc., but it looks like that's what I might have to do to build a realistic hospital in this game. I just found your video and I'm gonna watch your series and then build a whole new hospital.
@JonathanJONeill4 жыл бұрын
This is a very interesting premise. I look forward to watching this. Have you done or have any plans to do a layout along with the workshop mods that add new departments? Workshop has Urology, Ear Nose and Throat, Oncology, Sexual Health, and Gynocology/Obstetrics departments. There's also the Infectious Diseases DLC coming out next month as wells.

I am so, so, SO incredibly late on this video, and I have no clue if you ever metion it in later videos (which i will check out, I love when people give incredibly niche perspectives from real life to games), but you can (now? might have been patched in at some point? idk) move the ambulance parking lot and drop-off spot It's just a bit hidden away :P It's increadibly easy, just in a Tab most Players don't really open often: In the Ambulance Tab. In the third tab in the building mode you can get two parking spaces, one big and one standard one, and you can also get the ambulance drop-off space! The lots can be placed everywhere on your space, however the strip connecting it and the main street will always be on the same side as the original lot. The same for drop-offs, but sadly those are even more constrained, they can only be placed on the side of the generated road the original spot was, so no moving the dropoff point further inside or on the other side :(
