I think this is the most "musical" LP Plastikman has ever done. It's more complex and the ideas develop a lot faster than in previous recordings. At 24:09 it really takes off. Either you "get" the gradualism and minimalism of Plastikman -- or you don't. Some find it boring. I find it relaxing. It forces you to kind of slow down and notice the little segues and progressions. Some find it annoying, too repetitious, too slow at getting to its destination, but I mostly enjoy it now and then. I own quite a few Plastikman and Richie Hawtin CDs. Pioneer techno minimalism artist Plastikman (Richie Hawtin) releases new album "EX". This is slow-building techno that people either love passionately or find to be boring. I learn from it the value of simplicity and gradualism. Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New York's iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheim's annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk. Tracks: EXposed EXtend EXpand EXtrude EXplore EXpire EXhale
@afrosheenix10 жыл бұрын
You get it, but from watching the actual performance at the Guggenheim, it's clear that the audience didn't. Pearls before swine at that venue. Thankfully there have been actual shows afterwards that looked mind blowing with huge crowds that appreciated what they were hearing and seeing.

I think this is my second favorite installment of Plastikman after Consumed! I think it was said below perfectly, that this is a counterpoint to Consumed. Consumed was muddled, airy, noisy, and wavering but over all "Consuming". All you who are complaining are coming to listen to "RIchie" not Plastikman. Plastikman in NOT intended as "Club". It's Ambient, not EDM. The reason there is no direction or "lead" is because as Brian Eno put it, "You become the figure in the landscape."

+D r Jezz music of Bach, Beethoven, Handle wrote music for God, and it was played in the congregation...it was a bigger picture view of the world. Music like Richie Hawtin, which has more emphasis on the beat and groove, is more about the visceral, tangible, human experience. It's not about the Higher Power, but getting in tune with our bodies, our groove, and our basic instinct...the pulsing of our heart, blood, and breath...very different experience, but equally as incredible and moving...

Kudos to Mr. Hawtin!! He's put together another fine album. I don't understand all the negative feedback and lack of respect by all the haters out here. Do you even know how silly and ignorant you appear when you post your opinion without any sort of knowledge or experience about this music? Obviously you want an explanation since a lot of you are saying"...uhhhh what is this?...aaahhhh I dont get it?? huh or...he's overated...", blah blah blah... If you dont like it then dont post it? If you dont understand it then listen to it again and again because posting back and forth is not going give you answers!!! or those of you who asked the question. Before I begin my little hater rant about those inexperienced little teens & frat brats, I just want to say that this isn't about Hawtin its about the state of this music now and about you the next generation who needs to become educated in this art form if you truly want to see it grow AGAIN!. This message is for the Tried and True Original Electro-Techo Crew or the New School Crew and NOT some of you who are on a drug induced road to nowhere following your friends wherever they want to go or because you lost hip hop and dont know where to go or because you saw SHM, Avici or Van Whomever and now you think you know good music. Ha!!! Its for a small few of you kids that are ready to take the road less traveled on the right path that can really help take this music even higher with positive experiences, less drugs :), respect for (almost)all producers and the desire for change. So I digress, as I mentioned Im sure most of you are young and dont fully understand IDM - Intelligent Dance Music, Ambient, House or other quality underground electronic music. To you its about EDM - Ego Dance Music mostly played on the radio or main stage festivals!!! Although these outlets spread the word about electronic music, it's also allowing certain negative entities or un-creative artists to exploit the culture for money! That's a whole other discussion. Most of you are too busy (LOOKING NOT LISTENING) to a DJ standing on the MP3 turntables and you're holding a phone in the air recording the DJs every move, all the while waving a glow stick just hoping the DJ will point at you for one second. Ugh Really??? If you are actually lucky enough to catch yourself performing such a despicable act then please try this...turn the camera off, face the opposite way from the DJ, close your eyes and try to just listen. I seriously doubt you will be listening to quality music but at least you you gave it a shot to concentrate on what the real intended purpose was for festivals. A positive gathering of friends & people all coming together to have an uplifting musical experience simultaneously at one singular moment with good music. Hopefully the rest of you kiddies will understand the logical progression of this music and how it's constantly evolving, mutating whereas it becomes cyclical all over again. I've been a die hard house club cat, raver, festival goer, DJ, dancer and of course dedicated LISTENER for so long that Ive seen the electronic genres and the styles merge, break away and come back again full circle. Its the figure 8 affect intertwining infinitely and each time creating a new spawn of sounds. We are at the crossroads my friends, the next purge of Ego-Pop DJ's is near. Those of you who GET IT are going to be there for the new beginnings of some incredible live music and hopefully you new cats wake up from your molly hang over and don't miss IT! Those of you who dont wake up or just want to hate, then please just move aside and go back to MTV!
@Mnementh9910 жыл бұрын
Your message is solid, but please dont call it IDM. In a September 1997 interview, Aphex Twin commented on the 'Intelligent Dance Music' label: I just think it's really funny to have terms like that. It's basically saying 'this is intelligent and everything else is stupid.' It's really nasty to everyone else's music. (laughs) It makes me laugh, things like that. I don't use names. I just say that I like something or I don't Hard to question Richard, him and Ritchie kinda forged this genre, if they dont like the name neither do I.

A bit of a elitist perspective. Though I personally get what you are trying to convey. Yes. Edm is not for everyone. Though the people who do attend. Eventually some of them dig a bit deeper, and discover the talent. Though it’s 2019 and the EDM crowd will stay as the EDM crowd. Though I’ve always said the commercial and independent have a vital symbiotic relationship. Independent breaks new ground. Commercial cops it. Then independent goes in a different direction and commercial follows the sound again. If everything was underground independent. Whatever it’s called. The music we understand would become incredibly stagnant
