Been super excited because since Fiji has opened up for exporting, we have been seeing the purple, pink and brown specimens. Lithophyllon/fungia. You see them in dive pics, but never in tanks. Only in early 2000s

Hey March! You should try getting a Heliofungia fralinae - a couple months after they die they can spawn hundreds of baby plates out of their skeletons. one of my LFS has a whole tank dedicated to the actual dozens of babies it's grown, piled on each other. Also, there's Fungia, Heliofungia (which usually has long tentacles, but some species don't like the aforementioned Heliofungia fralinae), Diaseris, Cycloseris, and Lithophyllon - JF freak hair is actually a colonial Lithophyllon which is sorta cool

I purchased ours from AAC probably 4 years ago, standard bright orange version with smaller length tentacles. Soon after getting it acclimated on the sand bed, maybe a month or so, it started to shed it’s skin and lost about a third of it’s surface so you could see it’s skeleton, I didn’t move it and slowly over the months it began to recover until the full beauty and vibrancy returned, I was lucky, took a while, but they can recover.

Long tentacle plates have a dismal record in captivity….between 3 and 6 months

I would have to disagree with this statement, Iv kept them for a lot longer with 0 issues

That may be true for some. But for most, will perish, that’s why they are included on source orders for free to replace stuff, not available. It’s your money though

I hate the phrase "easy coral" as I think I have lost one of every "easy" coral at least once since I started this hobby. The long tentacle plate coral is still the most expensive loss I have had-lasted about 2 weeks :( luckily things have improved since then but in my experience these don't like new tanks!

Plate corals are very hard to keep "easy coral" is not it haha, have had 2 of them for them only to last about a month each, all my other corals are doing great just cant keep the long tentacle plates,

It depends how old your tank really is, you need a stable water parameters. You also need lots of sand space. I recommend getting one ( if you want one) when your tank is growing Coraline algae.

A lot of people think that there are two types of fungia plate corals because some have small tentacles and others have none. After doing a little research I found that the ones with no tentacles aren’t fungia at all but they are called cycloseris. They look almost exactly the same except they are usually smaller than fungia plate coral and the skeleton has a smoother underside.

Not just cycleseris - there's diaseris as well. That's just the non-hairy ones - for the hairy ones, there are fungia, heliofungia (some of which have the super long tentacles), and lithophyllon. And these are just the genus names, there's multiple species of each one as well.

Too bad you guys dont offer free shipping on orders over X amount like every store in canada does. I have a few corals that I want to buy that well over the usual threshold, but then the shipping cost sucks. There are couple of plates i see in this video I have had in my cart for some time now, but just cant justify the shipping.
