Hi Larry, it was lovely to meet you at Warley. Thank you for signing my DCC wiring books that you wrote. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Modelling in the loft this week in the UK has started to become challenging with the seasonal sub zero temperatures. Thanks again and have a great Christmas. 🚂🎄❄️

I did and am almost home now. I have a bunch of videos to wade through and hope to get at least the one on Warley up this week but both my video camcorders crapped out on me so I may have to take a week off if I can’t pick a replacement up locally this weekend.

Hi Larry, Excellent video. I'm, a UK modeller (in N rather than 00). Don't know whether you can get them in US but Peco make separate platform edges which are actually embossed as brick, stone or Southern Railway concrete; they certainly would be available from Hattons and Rails of Sheffield. These are flexible and are used with plastic sheet which allows curved platforms as well as straight ones. I actually use 'mounting board' (used for mounting photos). The one issue we have with Peco platforms, certainly in N, is that they are designed to be used with the foam underlay and unless you pack the track up with cork you end up with platforms that are too high and they come above the bottoms of coach doors. I like your Chinchilla dust platform surface. I use it as ballast in N and would use talcum powder mixed with paint for a similar effect in N remembering that in the UK we use 1:148 rather than 1:160 for N. I use dry brushing for getting a varied colour, using a tarmac/asphalt surface as I model 1960's era. I use a base coat of a suitable grey household emulsion (water based) paint with various shades of grey dry brushed on top. On mounting board, in N, it gives enough texture. I've loved following your DCC Guy videos too; it has helped me to get my head around DCC for a project my club (West Midlands N Gauge Club) are considering embarking on. Carry on the excellent work.

I know they offered the front edgings separately but did not see an embossed surface version.

Having checked the latest catalogue you are mainly correct.. The stone and brick items are adhesive strips but the concrete is still moulded. In N they still offer us full texture. A retrograde step.

Nice method Larry, sadly our paths didn't cross at Warley but I think they should have had better extraction for the food outlets. The smell of burgers was overpowering! Andy.

Great show but turnout was low due to the rail strike on Saturday. Last I heard it was about 12,500 attendees.

Thanks! I enjoyed how you mixed and matched different products to achieve the look you wanted. It does remind one to not be fixated on just the "bits in the box". What track are you using on your Uk module?
@UKModelRailways
@UKModelRailways Жыл бұрын
Peco code 75. I also have a box of their new Bullhead track but then decided not to use it since at the time they did not have turnouts to match. It’s too late now but I saw an article in Model Rail where they mixed the standard code 75 turnouts with the Bullhead rails and it looked fine once ballasted. Now I need to find someone over here who wants a box of Bullhead.
@rgmichel
@rgmichel Жыл бұрын
@@UKModelRailways I should be able to use your bullhead. I am planning a loco shed that would have retained bullhead into the 1960a. Let me know how much in quantity and price.

It’s a full box of 25 pieces, code 75, OO scale, wooden sleepers. I got it from Kingston Locomotive Works in Canada who had it included with one of his larger orders from the UK. That was 3-4 years ago so let me see what I can let it go for as a full box. Shipping back to the UK would not be cost effective so are you in the US or Canada?

Great, that makes it affordable. Rails of Sheffield has them on sale for £124.50 which at today’s conversion rate is about $152. But I am in a mood to declutter so I will give them to you for $100 plus shipping.

Now I know why I was right subscribing to your new UK channel. I model the U.S. Great Lakes region in 1952. I understand and support your decision to create the new channel so it doesn't adversely impact your original channel. For the betterment of the hobby both channels deserve and need to be preserved and expanded, in content and in reach. In video 288 you announced the new channel, and because it's important to support good intent creators (in your case, superb is a better descriptor) I chose to subscribe not knowing the extent to which UK-related content would be of actual use building my layout. But I knew it would be interesting. If your collected works have proven anything, they constantly demonstrate how good and thorough discussion of one subject by a well informed and thoughtful creator illuminates other subjects too. At some level, railroading is railroading wherever one goes. There are numerous specific instances where information is more applicable than in just the instance in which it is presented. In this video you modeled a platform for a foreign city I've never seen or heard of, which is interesting in itself. At the same time you solved my specific problem deciding how to create and use the platforms for my Union Station in my fictional Great Lakes City here in the U.S. The work is handsome, brilliantly executed, and the techniques and materials chosen will give me exactly the look I want. Sorry if its a nuisance, but I don't expect to stop thanking you for your work anytime soon. Congratulations on your new venture, and always all best wishes!

Larry I am an American, but I thought that British Station Platforms had a white line at the edge of the platform facing the tracks on the pavers. Later in the BR era they added a yellow line, about three feet back?
@UKModelRailways
@UKModelRailways Жыл бұрын
On the GWR they first applied them during WWI then afterwards went back to their old ways. Again in 1939 the white lines were added and through WWII and after the war they were retained when British Railways took over. It used to be that yellow lines were only painted on platforms that had "high speed" trains passing through accompanied with a notice stating "High Speed Trains pass this platform. Please stand behind the yellow line". Now they appear to paint yellow lines on any old platform regardless of line speed.

Very informative video Larry. I always thought those platforms were a bit ‘toy like’, but you certainly quashed that theory! I will certainly look for that ground pumice here in the UK as it seems a very versatile material for road surfaces as well. How did you get on with your trip to the UK and especially Warley?
@UKModelRailways
@UKModelRailways Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it It is a great material just be careful with it as it is very fine and it would do terrible things to your lungs if breathed in.
