Greetings from Crete, the island of Minos and the Minoan Civilization. Crete is in Plato's Phaedo as well, when he is referring to Theseus myth. What do you think that the myth symbolizes?

@@platosworld Hello! This is all well said! I've two further questions--one concerns the ship of Theseus. What are we to make of calling that ship the same while it changes & changes & changes in maintenance? Secondly, the stay of execution--are we to take that as the necessary wisdom of ancient laws, which were nevertheless harsh, that they could forestall, if not abolish, the desire for retaliation? @@platosworld In terms of events, the sequence is not causal. But in poetic terms, post hoc ergo propter hoc is causality! Yeah, it would seem to be form--so then the of Theseus in ship of Theseus would seem to fall away!

It's also the setting of the Nomoi, or Laws. Though he is technically correct that not Socrates, but the Athenian Stranger, likely a hypothetical Socrates having gone into exile rather than drinking the hemlock, treats of law there, beside the Cave of Zeus where Minos received the ancient laws.
