And what happens when there are cars alongside the platoon when an evasive maneuver is executed? Headline news... 7 people dead...

We have many idiots in society, they will do exactly what the small car did in this video.

drivers are still needed since 'platooning' would only be possible on highways

1:49 Ah, so each truck still has a driver. Meh, this is much less impressive than I originally thought...
@lichfieldhumanists13396 жыл бұрын
Today that is so because it is mandated by legislation and very sensibly too. However once it is proven that this is much much much safer than having human drivers apart from all the other reasons, tomorrow they will be AI only.

Also being GPS and radar are the systems primary, possibly only, communication devices, a malfunction could be brutal. A telsa ate a guard rail so why wouldn't these
@davidwang29355 жыл бұрын
definitely not a mature technology to my understanding, could be improved by the use of ultra-fast 5G systems as communication devices

I will give an example!I driv a truck I'm leaving the gas station and I will sort on highway and suddenly I wanted to avoid an obstacle And in the poison directly into the Platoonig track!!!!What do you think?Here are a few examples of youtube the German autobahn
@theeuprise6 жыл бұрын
wow! this is so stupid, just an accident waiting to happen! the animation showed perfect driving conditions with zero traffic. how are 3 trucks that are pretty much tailgating going to stop or slowdown safely in snow, ice or even rainy conditions. what about cornering down steep hills? high winds and gust. the thing the scares me the most is the way they all switch lanes together...

Those trucks are too close and would crash into each other. The car that was in between would be a pancake. Stupid people come up with stupid ideas.

+zupmeoff When the lead turns or breaks it tells the other computers to do so. And it has radar to see the range. The idea is that the computers act like a "hive mind" and do things in coordination. Computer has millisecond reaction times. Not like humans. ;)

Dude, did you ever drive on a highway? There are cars and trucks driving behind one another not minding legal distances. Including better raction, the algorithms for this 'stupid idea' is much safer than a human beings can ever drive

Wow. One of the most asinine idiotic things I may have ever seen. Does the producer of this video consider a lane change on a highway due to a barricade in the number one lane "evasive" --- how bout testing the reaction of said trucks when that lone car overtakes the lead truck jumps in his lane and slams on the brakes. Regardless of sensors they are still 80k ton vehicles with the same standard air brake systems that need the same amount of room to stop safely. Not a trucking job I'd be signing up for. And as a motorist if I ever saw three rigs in a row that close to each other at highway speeds I'd sure as hell stay as far away from them as possible. Just wow.
@davidwang29355 жыл бұрын
definitely agree, but platooning trucks could adjust to a safe amount of room behind the car. If the car decides to slam on the brakes, platooning trucks would signal each other in such a way that they decelerate together
