I think in some traditions, to engage with a spirit or ghost and not formally end the interaction, i.e. to say "goodbye," gives the spirit or ghost an opportunity to take action outside of that interaction, which is viewed as a dangerous opportunity to give the ghost.

I've heard that before, too, that if you don't dismiss the ghost from the ouija board or seance circle, they can step from their plane of existence to yours. It effectively "unleashes" the ghost or demon into our plane of existence, which is why not doing so with the ouija board starts a hunt. They left their plane of existence.

@@moniquebell8191 I think it's also seen in older traditions like pagan spiritual rituals, a practice of formally expressing gratitude and farewell even when addressing welcomed benevolent spirits. It seems like many faith traditions that involve multiple spiritual beings place great importance on formally actively closing the circle or ritual.

Random slightly off-topic comment, but, I had such a big smile on my face when they started with the "Where are you? the reason you say goodbye on the board is because you summon/call a spirit and with goodbye you are releasing it back. or just imagine calling someone and then not hanging up. ^^

I dunno if they updated it, but i think smudge sticks cast like an aura around all players, so i think you could have saved matt like i think you activate smudge stick then all players get the effect so you can smudge from the truck and as long as the ghost is close enough to your friend you can still save them

First game trying to teach my husband how to play, I knew what ghost it was in the first 3 seconds and what room. It was a hallway ghost and a mare. I giggled and told my husband I knew the ghost. He was so confused. I told him we still needed to find the evidence for his sake before we leave and he was still confused how I said it was a mare before we had the evidence. I told him in the truck that each ghost gives its own "special" evidence and mares particularly hate light and will instantly turn off a light when you click the button if close by. We got a mare like 10 times that night. Annoyingly. But he was very familiar with mares in the end of the play session.

Saying goodbye to a ojua board and the motion going to goodbye supposably closes the circle. This prevents the spirit from latching onto you. According to pagan friends.

they need to get rid of the ghost flashing in and out of visibility. its hard to see and just ruins the hunt experience. Even dumber that they changed it to be that way for dead spectators too

I don't really have a problem seeing the ghosts and unless it is a Deogen or I'm checking for an Obake model change, I'm generally not looking at it after the first couple seconds of the hunt anyway... It also can help identify ghosts. The Oni's invisible flickers are shorter (it is more visible than other ghosts) and the Phantom's invisible flickers are longer (it is less visible)
