I saw your video that teaches noobs what are the notes of the frets on guitars from an open E string and so forth and what you said about the B and E note. Where do I go from here starting from zero?

You mentioned this can be used for minor and modes, how would you apple this to those?
@yourguitarsage Жыл бұрын
Hard to explain in a comment, but each of the modes are built upon a different scale step of the major scale, so, all the modes and minor scale are within there. For example, the minor scale is the major scale played from the sixth note, to the sixth note. Try it with a major scale and you will hear what I’m talking about.👍

Same scale notes. Just play from 6 to 6. See my video on “relative major/minor”.

@@yourguitarsage Erich, I've been noodling this since you posted it and I have a question. I find it much more comfortable to use a 1,3,4 fingering vs. a 1,2,4 fingering pattern, due to broken fingers and arthritis. No excuses, just a question as to whether or not it matters which fingers are used? Is there an eventual downside to learning this stretch with the 1,3,4 finger pattern? Thanks!!!
@thomashenryson5585 Жыл бұрын
Erich, thanks much. This dead simple pattern is known as: Major Scale using three notes per string (3NPS). Playing 3NPS over a 5 fret wide box on two adjacent strings yields 1 through 6 major scale degrees. The notes on each string are separated by a Whole-step. Going from one string to the other is a Half-step. This technique is usually fingered as you described and is often referred to a "spread-finger". Many players and instructors use this technique for playing major scales. Note that the spread-finger may be difficult for some players. However, other fingering could be used. This 3NPS and octave repeat across the fretboard provides good fretboard visualization.

Does this pattern work when starting on the A string, or lower strings?
@yourguitarsage Жыл бұрын
It does not work as well as the way I’m showing you. I would have to show you some other bits to make that make sense.

@@yourguitarsage Ok. Thanks so much for answering. I’ve been practicing this skill for the last two days and already see a lot of improvement in my fret board fluency and playing.

what would you suggest if you can't do that 1-3-5 stretch cause of small hands?
@yourguitarsage Жыл бұрын
Shift your hand. Most people have an issue with that stretch. Remember, you only have to play one note at a time.👍
