I've stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I believe this is honestly saving my life right now! I've got loads of theoretical knowledge but find it incredibly difficult to translate that into practice and this video literally is a life saver thank you so SO much for it!! (also omg finally someone teaching piano without using sheet music!!!)

i use the exact same approach. trust me it works. with practice you will get better at it and do it faster. just be patient. i reached to a point where i started to use it as a game and a challenge for me. i open any song that i see as a popular song even if it was a song that i never heard of it. and try to figure out the notes and just to make sure am doing the right thing i search on youtube the tutorial of the song and double check if i got the notes right and i search for the easy tutorials to make things more simple. with time, you will not even need to check. you will be confident. Thanks Mathew.

what do you mean the chord sounds like a C, we don't have perfect pitch

You don’t need perfect pitch, I also don’t have perfect pitch, play the notes on the piano until you find the one that sounds like what you are listening to 😊

Hey, i sincerely want you to succeed, I think your voice could use some better mic-ing and eqing, i unfortunately found it a bit hard to listen to as is. I clicked on this after a Venus Theory video and the contrast was stark. Would love to hear some more bass in your voice. Just giving constructive criticism, i hope you can hear it, and can level up! best

Thank you, I appreciate that. I will see if I can make some changes for future videos!

I appreciate the earnest effort that went into this, but, I don't think it will help anyone. It's throwing out key names too hastily for anyone to grasp. Unfortunately it can't be taught this quickly, and especially not to just anyone who hasn't already spent a good amount of time already playing and analyzing the keys and their relationship to each other.

Thank you for your feedback, I agree it’s a bit more in depth, my target was those that already play a bit but want to have a go at learning in a different way, rather then those that are passively interested. I included the quick information just to connect the dots.

I appreciate some structure! I seem to mostly do melody dictation and not at all used to listening for bass notes. I tried applying this to I'll make a man out of you/Mulan which was fun but kind of hard.. I seem to hear the tonic (E) everywhere (which is not wrong) and I mixed up the C and G chords in loads of places (comparing later with online chords) and Em and C etc :). Thanks Matthew

@@nahblue I’m glad you had a go at working through the process! It takes practice and repetition like most things but it is definitely worth it 😊
