Thanks for the content. As an entrenched MTG collector WOTC has lost me, going from, in Canada, an already hight draft box price, ie $125-$155, our price for a box of play boosters at $209...... get wrecked......

Are they really sell in pre-release kits for that much in the US? They are going for 25-30€ in EU, which seems completely ok for 6 set boosters which are going for 4€ a piece

Nice with the early opening! Would love to see a summary of the number of rares you got in the box as well. My friend tells me 4-5 mythics is the average in a draft box normally. So feels like 7 in a play box is consistent with what we should expect. I think

Except the 2 special guests ones pulled here have been printed not that long ago at uncommon rarity, so this just feels cynical & greedy from wotc, given how pricey are these boxes they shouldn't give artificially inflated mythics that are in reality uncommons

Yea, I think they messed up. The smaller list slot should have been bangers, the special guests are "ok" but nothing to get excited over, except maybe show and tell, or field of the dead. I don't think the rare lands will hold much value, couple bucks max. This set totally feels like its going to way of new capenna.

These are expensive. Will the price drop? Will it hold? Will they go on sale in November for under $80 for a play booster box? Will they be extremely overprinted? We do know one thing: with a foil in every pack, the foils will not be worth more than the non-foils, especially if they pringle.

How can foil cards get lower? They were already guaranteed in every set pack and collector packs house like 10/15 as foil usually? And old draft boosters used to have a 1/3 chance to get a foil so it wasn’t incredibly hard to pull a good few from a box.

I like more the frame that is not monacle. I think it looks neat. A pity cant collect those in korean foil like ive done with mh2, baldurs gate showcase frames.

Honestly agree. Especially the special guests. I understand they want to keep a seamless draft experience, but then they needed a non draft legal spot for real chases imo. Like cool art for Victimize and Drown in the Loch, but those are cheap uncommons. Nobody getting fooled by the upshift in the special guest slot. I guess show and tell, field of dead and gamble are decent.. but still. The list itself has Ranger-Captain of Eos and Monologue tax as notable hits. Not sure they got this right. Limited still suffers from higher pull variance (luck has always mattered, but it matters more now) and cracking play boosters to collect isn’t quite the same if the special guests and lists will be toned down to not completely break limited.

I have to agree with everyone who says this product is too expensive for no good reason. They should have kept draft box pricing for this to make it actually appealing but WotC can't fathom simply giving its customers more. This feels like either an overpriced draft box or a watered down, more expensive set box... this is a great direction for WotCs bottom line and a god aweful proposition for the player.

I already drafted less than before. These make it even harder. And my store learned toward sealed, so the bump in cost for 6 packs isn’t going to bode well. And at this point, my friends if we do draft, it’s some 1-2 year old set we got on fire sale and it’s run to revisit a set we haven’t given as much attention to in a while.

I was parsing my collection to check the rarity of those special guests that knew I had from other sets (Commander Legends & Baldur's gate), turns out both are normally at uncommon rarity, so this feels like pure greed and cynicism from wotc, they are "fake"/artificial mythics...

I don't like that there is more rares. More rares symbols cards makes these cards actually physically less rare items and thus less valuable cards. It is faery powder thrown at our face by WotC when they say more rares justify the higher price. It is just the same thing with 1 foils per pack. Go look at sets like Shadowmoor... foils can get a 10X + multiplier value because the where Rare (you were getting 3-5 foils per box back then). I can't see a set like Murder having foils with 10X + value even in more than 20 years from now. There is just to much on the market. And as I said, the same things goes for the "multiple rares" possibility per pack gimmick.

You rarely got your money back from a draft box, but the price was for the experience of having a fun night with friends. The price now leaves a bad taste and I'd rather just play some board games. Disappointed to say the least.
