I'm a bass player, not a drummer, but I really enjoy your videos and they help me understand how drummers hear and count patterns. Thanks Em and merry Christmas!

Great content! I think the most important way to do a Ringo fill (beyond the left hand lead) is that the song writes the fill. It's not fitting cools licks in it's playing what is necessary to move the song forward. Like many Beatle songs Ringo has one maybe two fills he uses over and over because that is what fits with the music. Thinking like a musician not like a drummer basically.

That's a genius-level analysis and 'simulation' of Ringo's style! Thanks for figuring out how to explain and describe this! And the ways we can emulate it. "Leave space ... and play the song - the rhythm, the lyrics, the pattern. It was a great personal achievement 'back in the day' to learn a Beatles song having to listen to a crappy 2" speaker on a portable record player! d'oh!! ;-) Thanks.

Ringo swings like an incredibly swingy thing. A colossal drummer. Don’t pass him by..

Ringo was a study in what not play and the study of the silence between the notes.. there had to be a first… give it to Ringo for getting it right. George is quoted as saying Ringo never practiced..

Ringo, himself, says this in several interviews I've seen. ;- He had a set of skills (limited by most standards of today) but he sure knew how to apply them to the songs, didn't he?

@ paulbfields " a silence between notes " = in music its called a rest . there is also words in between words , one you left out was the two letter word TO , so you meant to but didn't write " a example of what not TO play. P.S. i myself double triple quadruple my writing before i post . yet i still screw up .... sometimes. 🤷🏻♂️

i'm not a drummer but all your rhythm and time signature stuff helps a lot with my bad guitar playing - can you play guitar too - i be you can - would love to see you make a video about applying drum rythms to guitar playing :)

I've been watching your videos! Love your drumming! Some of your speed , ( particularly on this video), reminds me of Carl Palmer. He's in his 70s and it's a wonder he doesn't pass out during a solo... but anyway...you have an amazing technique 😮

Now add about 10% swing and that’ll do it.

''Em you are a fine drummer . i play drums and have learned quite a bit from your quick bite videos , but have located a drum teacher in my area to advance my rather mediocre reading skills . i understand you show some beats and ride patterns very slowly and then preform them at high beats per minute BPM. however you go too fast for my eyes . if i may i have some suggestions to improve your videos . # 1 paint one drum stick a color of your choice the other stick a contrasting color. # 2 invest in a overhead video camera with variable slow motion . #3 you need more space . a lack of space in your STUDIO i believe is hampering a better camera angle . thanks for everything you do and may you prosper. . i also wonder are you in a band .

Actually sounds more like a Paul McCartney fill (another leftie), and I've never counted drummers that quit in the middle of a session as drummers.

@@tombstoneharrystudios584 The Beatles best drummer Paul McCartney, who didn't quit in the middle of sessions.

@@MJWPub I looked into that & didn’t Ringo leave because a) he wasn’t involved in the songwriting and b) he was fed up with McCartney being a bit too hard of a taskmaster?
