If you see any proxy top, you can pick Garen. Take Fleet Footwork, healing runes, rush Attack speed boots and Tiamat. You can Tiamat mid E, and since lvl 5 you can basically instakill the entire wave with your E. Even if the enemy proxies you can just sit in lane and not loose anything, not even HP, and you have no mana.

Was inspired from ShoDesu's, where he overviewed different roles a support can have, as well as a good blind pickable champ. @@dartog4967 garen is easily countered though. His easy mode makes him predictable as well, so its all about your perfomance if you can outplay him or not. And its much harder to outplay someone with billion dashes or oneshot based champ

Second, having a billion dashes can give you more opportunities to outplay someone. As you said, if you face a Garen that has the minimum amount of braincells needed to not int, it’s all about your performance, but if you face a Riven you can try to dodge or space her Qs, you can try to deny a Fiora’s vitals, dodge an Irelia’s e or r, but good luck outplaying a Garen’s r or q

What i try to do is poke him down with q+e and all in when he is low hp, usually they don't space well enough and they end up super low which sets up the full combo on aatrox. Also, as a general rule of thumb, try to not let him get close to you and keep him at q1/q2 range. Hope this helps!
