I've used this for decades. Can't even remember how I found it. :) Probably heard/played it on sheet music and analyzed it. (Classically trained.) I've always just called it the IV/V (four over five) - in the NEW key. IV chord over the V note/octave in the bass. And, IMHO, it can get you ANYWHERE, not just a whole step modulation. Seriously, play a little in Eb, hit the IV/V for ANY other key and, boom, you're there. It's not the most creative way to get there, but it is, again IMO, always ear-friendly because it's so harmonically strong.

Interesting perspective on this. You’ll typically hear that “transition chord” named as the ii of the new key. So in this case an Em (specifically Em7/A). It’s the “classic” jazz ii,V,I Thinking of it as a smoosh between the 2different V chords is helpful!

Would love to see a follow-up with examples of other intervals between songs, rather than just mid-song modulations. For instance, examples of the best way to hint at and establish the new key from C to F, C to G, or something else trickier like C to A.

I'm just learning and this was slightly out of my pay grade. But I wasn't completely lost. I'll work on my chops and be back. Merci beaucoup.

Great video! Friendly feedback suggestion... since all of the examples you showed were keys that added sharps, can you configure the top keyboard to indicate/display the black keys by their sharp names vs. flat key names?

We greatly appreciate the awesome content you are offering. When I started playing, I got thrown into the deep end, so the transpose button was my lifeline. It's been a blessing and a curse because now it is challenging to naturally change keys. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on this topic of transposing. Can it be considered the capo of keyboarding or a no-no in playing?
@jkimp9522 Жыл бұрын
@delanuizvideos, I used to stress myself out by never using the transpose button. Now, I use it just like a guitar player uses a capo. If I have the time to put the practice in, and to challenge myself, then I do without the transpose button. But, I have no shame when I choose to use it. After all, it's an expensive piece of equipment with a handy little button!

Great video! Thanx! One question. Could you make a video you explain the chords with the Numbers. I want to Play with my band on this way because we all Play in different keys. This is difficult for the Talckback. I can use a simpele explanation of this. So i can show to them. 😄
