Welcome to this bass lesson for the iconic hit "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry!
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced bassist, this lesson will give you the tools you need to add this classic tune to your repertoire.
We'll start by going over the harmony and then I'll break down the bass line for each section starting with the intro.
To help you follow along, I've included both TAB and a backing track so you can practice the bass line at your own pace.

Always loved this song. Had a bass for a week now and just found you. Great breakdown, I have the first few bars already. Progress at last. However, I'd love to see how you approach Roundabout by Yes!

Absolutely superb lesson. Great teaching and explanation, great playing and fantastic sheet music. All helps a beginner like me. Keep up the great work. Question. P bass or jazz bass. I've got a cheap one but after a nice one but don't know which one. Normal mans size hands haha. Thanks

Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Ohhh that’s the question! In an ideal world I’d have both (that’s what I have a home) but if I had to pick one I’d probs go for the jazz bass just because of variety. You can make a p bass sound close to a j bass but it’s hard to get some j bass tones out of a p bass. Also the neck is usually thinner on a j bass if you have smaller hands. I hope this helps!

@@JazMoss you make playing that bass look easy my friend. I’ve been playing and singing in blues band for a number of years but play by ear as I never learned to read music so your videos are very helpful to players like myself.

Most people play it wrong, they think it’s the same as the guitar riff which it isn’t. ✌️😂
