I don't tend to check on these videos very much, but I though that I would address the questions about the gear that I used for this video: Drum Stuff: 1) PDP X7 7-ply Maple shell pack Lacquer Red Sparkle Burst finish: Toms - 7"x8", 8"x10", 9"x12". Floor Toms - 12"x14", 14"x16". Kick - 18"x22" 2) Pearl Steel Snare (student): 5.5"x'14" 3) Heads (Toms and Floor Toms): Batter - Remo Coated Ambassador. Resonant - Remo Clear Ambassador 4) Snare Heads: Batter - Remo Coated Controlled Sound. Snare Side - Remo Hazy Diplomat Snare Side 5) Kick Heads: Beater - Remo Powerstroke P3 Clear, Resonant = Remo Powerstroke P3 Ebony (ported) 6) Aquarian Studio Rings, RemO's and Moongels 6) Dream Bliss Series Cymbals: 13 inch Hi Hats, 17 and 14 inch Crash, 22 inch Ride 7) Zildjian A Cymbal: 16 inch Medium Thin Crash 8) Wuhan Cymbals: 8 and 10 inch Spash, 12 inch China 9) Kick Pedal: Tama Speed Cobra Double 10) Sticks: Vater Gospel Series GS_5A with Vater Grip Tape 11) Other hardware is a mix of different brands. Recording Stuff: 1) Behringer UB2442FX-Pro Mixer 2) Zoom H4N Handy Recorder 3) Mics: a) Snare - Audix i5 b) 8 inch Tom - Shure SM57 c) 10 and 12 Iinch Toms - Audix D2 d) 14 inch Floor Tom - Audix D4 e) 16 inch Floor Tom - CAD KBM 412 f) Hi Hat - Digital Reference DRI100 (cheap) g) Overheads - Audiopile 300C condenser (matched pair) I'm still using the X7 shells (although mostly in a 4 or 5 piece configuration now), the Dream cymbals, the Zildjian A, the Tama kick pedal, and assorted hardware. I also still use the Audix, Shure, and Audiopile mics. I replaced the Pearl snare with an Orange County Drums and Percussion (OCDP) 7"x14" 25-ply Maple snare with lacquer silver sparkle. I replaced the Wuhan 10 inch splash with a Zildjian 9 inch K Custom Hybrid Splash, and the 8 inch Wuhan was replaced by an even cheaper Agazarian 8 inch splash. Except for the Powerstroke P3 beater head on my kick, I use all Evans heads now: G2 Coated over G1 Clear for all Toms, Coated Power Center Reverse Dot batter over clear 300 Snare Side for the Snare, and an Ebony ported EMAD for the kick resonant head. The second most important change that I have made since this video was getting rid of the Behringer mixer and replacing it with a Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 digital mixer. The DAW that I use is Reaper, but everything that is on my youtube channel (so far) is recorded in single takes with my band, or accompanying tracks, using Presonus Capture. Finally, the most significant gear change that I made are my sticks. I really liked the Vater Gospel 5As because they are 16.5 inches long. But about a year after I made this video, i went on a search for a better stick. After trying several pair, the Vic Firth Steve Jordan Signature emerged as the winner. These new sticks still have the 16.5 inch length, but the diameter is smaller than 7A at 0.525 inches. I was skeptical when I saw them in the store, but I bought them anyway. First time I played them, I was able to move around the kit better than I ever had before, and the length still gave me power when I needed it. Then I put the grip tape on them and it ruined the stick dynamics completely. So now I use stick wax on them and they are great to play, and the sound that they coax out of the bell of my ride is better than any other stick that I've tried. That's probably more than any of you wanted to know! Thanks again for watching and posting the encouraging words!

Solid. This would be a good tune for drummers to really funk this up. It begs a more grooving drum part. I was expecting this guy to open up and really make it better but it didn’t happen. It IS solid playing.

Good drumming but the kickbass is wrong. Probably the most vital part in funk and disco music is the kickbass and you're doing it wrong

'You're doing it wrong' is a strong statement to make about any art form, including music. I usually do try to play covers as close to note-for-note as my ability allows, but this song is just so much fun, I just went with the flow and this was the result. Is it 'wrong?' I don't think so. Maybe a little bit different, but not wrong. I think it still has the same overall feel as the original, but that's just my opinion. One of my favorite drummers, Gavin Harrison, has multiple live recordings of the same songs and they're each different (even kick drum placement) each time, but they all serve the music. If there is one thing I have learned by listening to him, and others, is that you can explore new rhythms within a song and as long as it serves the music, it's ok. Maybe I failed at that here (I'm not a pro, by any measure), but I had fun! Peace...
