Playa Hamm stops by #UniqueAccess to discuss how DJ Quik would "hold back" in the studio. The Penthouse Players Clique member talks about how he had to not be "unreasonably aggressive" early in his career. The Los Angeles rapper also tells #SorenBaker about DJ Quik's remarkable ability to learn. Let us know what you think.

Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

I know Quik is being selective with his interviews at this point in his career or for the most part, not doing interviews at all. But if he chooses any platform and host to give the fans what they’ve been wanting for years - it has to be done by Soren Baker through this channel. Any other platform will bypass the important stages of his career and not tap into the wealth of knowledge and history he carries. I really hope someone close to Quik convinces him to be a guest on your show because only you will give him the appropriate journalistic treatment and interview, to allow his mark and story in Hip-hop to be solidified.

@@UniqueAccessEnt Thank u for replying. Good news that you guys on working to get Quik, there’s a lotta stuff we dnt knw about the brotha. I was wondering, if u guys can get more people to talk about Eazy-E, but not just about his life itself but about his music. We been robbed by the circunstances of his music. There’s been “rumors” about unreleased music from his Temporary Insanity album produced by Dre & Str8 off Tha Streetz of Muthapphukkin’ Compton pt.2. We know for instance that some tracks mightve been released on Impact of a Legend album and on that Ruthless compilation album back in 98. Tracks like BNK produced by LT Hutton mustve been remixes hence he was living and with Snoop and was down with DR back in the days E was alive. My question is if theres a chance to talk with cats like DJ Yella (even though he already said what he said about the diss song for Ice Cube being left out an album that had atleast 4 diss song for DR artist, Rhytm D, Madness4Real, Dresta, BG Knocc Out, Bone Thugs, MC Ren, Dirty Red, Cold 187um, Kokane, Sylk E Fyne, Will.i.am, Lil Eazy, Quik, Treach, and even Tomika. Actually that's when I found out that Dre was gone from Ruthless records when I went to pick the records up and the Penthouse players were apart of the records I got that day and I was in Fat Burger and saw Dre and Doc and I was telling him about the records I picked up and he told me that day he wasn't at Ruthless records anymore. And that same day I found out Dre and Doc started a new record label called Death Row Records. I was pissed off after Dre didn't have enough money to pay for their hamburgers so I gave him 700 dollars and he told me he was staying at the Madrion hotel on Sunset next to the House of Blues and Dre ask me to come to the studio they were working at the Solar building. I told Dre I will do even better than that I am going back out to Ruthless records right after I cash this 40 thousand dollars check at Wells Fargo bank and Tell Jerry and Eazy I was going to promote the records I just picked up but I just saw Dr Dre and Doc and they are not on Ruthless records anymore more. I look at Eazy and Jerry and said ya'll have FUCKED Up on letting him go this is different than CUBE and by the way I QUIT.......‼IM ROLLIN WITH DRE ❗ AND BOUNCED.......

I remember some of the marketing for the album. The focus was more on Quik and Eazy instead of Hamm and Tweed. Made it seem like it was a Quik/Eazy collaboration album when it wasn't.

So Soren & Unique Access Crew was Playa Hamm kinda sayings he trying to approach making music like Above the law but with a battle rapper perspective & some conscious ideas like Boogie Down Production?
@hennessyapplejuice8331
@hennessyapplejuice8331 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think he definitely wanted to make more conscience records I think he wanted to be more like Rakim and X-Clan but came off more like Big Daddy Kane.Quik had said in a interview once without sayin names that people were making songs that everyone wasn't tryna here and he wanted to make songs people could relate to.Thats where his songs like Tonite and 8ball came into play.Quiks first album was just a coming of age party anthem for the hood.Each song is what the typical 16 to 23 year old dudes were doing in the hood and you could pick a different song each day and say this my anthem for today and I'll pick a new one tomw
