OMG, I did a lot of the same things, including waiting in line to use the bank machine. For an easy way to calculate prices in Canadian, I remove the zeros and double the number. (4000 Colones = 4 x 2 = 8 $.) It is the same thing as dividing by 500, but after a few Imperials…It used to be 8 US and then add a bit for Canadian, but now it is actually rounding up as the Loonie is up value compared to the Colones. I had a problem with a bank machine in a grocery store in Coco, the money stayed in the machine, all caught up. 400$ US. I called my bank with the info and it I was reimbursed a month later. I only use bank machines in Air conditioned bank machines to avoid the problem. At some major stores, you can either pay in US$ or in Colones. I find that I pay in Colones because otherwise they convert to US using an exchange rate that is to their benefit and then my bank converts from US to Canadian (two conversions). I can’t wait to get down there at Christmas and then in a year and a half in retirement! Pura Vida.

Yes! That’s exactly how we learned to calculate the exchanges too! Good tip about using bank machines in air conditioned banks. So far we’ve been lucky.

Haha, I guess it’s to be expected initially. We’ll be more on top of it from now on for sure. I think. 😜 We’re having fun laughing at our mistakes anyway!

Saludos y bendiciones. Entre mis frutas preferidas están los jocotes maduros, me gustan así porque son más dulces. Los jocotes verdes son más acidos.

Can't wait to eat crazy fruit. Enjoy rain storms and learn the monies with you both 😉

The rain storms probably won’t be happening when you’re here, but different fruit from what you’re used to for sure will be. We should let you figure out the money part - but maybe by then we’ll have it sorted!

Guys, you don't have to let tips in Costa Rica, unless you would like to do, because exist something called "Service Fee" or "Service Tax" and is the 10% of the total bill amount, so that's why the locals don't lets tips, because the "Tips" is already included

The only flavor that I can compare dragon fruit with is the kiwi flavor, but it is a bit more incipient.

Thanks for the information about tipping Gustavo! Greatly appreciated. And so far, we’ve loved all the new fruits we’re tasting. There is such an abundance here! We’re planning on becoming fluent in Spanish in the near future - lessons are on our list - so we’ll learn all the proper names soon enough!

Hello, I congratulate you and invite you to eat Ripe Jocotes and even better Tico-style Ripe Mangoes, in pants or shorts, in a sports shirt and sitting in a chair so that the fruit juice slides like a waterfall hahaha.🇨🇷 🍑🥭
