I started sewing at an early age in the 70s. I would design and alterate for my classmates, counselor, and make a teachers' wedding dress. I even worked in a tailor shop after school. My grandmother would admiringly tell me, you're another Edith Head! But never did she mention this talented woman, named Zelda Wynn. I am honored to have known about her accomplishments! Thank you for sharing! ❤

Thank you! Excellent recital and acclaim essay for the brillaint Zelda Wynn Valdes. As a footnote, a handful of Wynn Valdes’s creations still survive, including one designed for Eartha Kitt. It is on dispaly in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C

@blackhistory767 I had a friend who's mom had been a bunny . I got to see and really look at the stuucture and the work on the inside . Incredible. I come from a seamstress family , and knew the genius behind the design , and the quality . I just don't know how they managed to get in them and work ! We are raised to stand correctly and hold in our stomachs , at all times . It requires practice . But preteens were trained . For real ,like walking with the book on your head. How you move was a sign of class , elegance was admired.

There is much I want to say, but I don't want to post a Ph.D Dissertation. I call my self a history buff, however, I have NEVER heard of Miss Wynn. Elizabeth Kackley? Yes, I have heard of her. Edith Head? Yes, I have heard of her. However, she (Wynn) was in the same category as them. Her story is extremely interesting and she created such, such, well, I don't know how describe it. I'm at a total lost for words. I usually don't subscribe to any of the sites, but I have subscribed to yours. PS I'm getting ready to watch it again.

That’s how they do us! They continue to write us off! This woman is a trailblazer and she need to be celebrated! They also need to do a movie; have the fashion school have a curriculum about her; and she need to be celebrated in the African American Museums.

Since 2013, rumours have suggested the original design of the Playboy Bunny costume was by Valdes; however, there exists no evidence to support this. This is also contradicted by recounts in much earlier publications such as "Big Bunny" by Joe Goldberg (1967) and "The Bunny Years" by Kathryn Leigh Scott (1998).
