The main difference in higher bit processors is addressable memory space, ie more memory, more data, more graphics. The HuC6280 had a built in mirco controller to manage the larger memory area and didn't need the additional bus bandwidth. The processor was as fast as the genesis 16 bit processor so this processor was a really good processor and should not be thought of as being inferior just because it was an 8 bit bus. 16 bit bus was not needed because of the added features in it.

I remember back in '88 or '89 at the Toronto CNE there was an NEC Turbografx pavilion... at that time we had no idea what a Turbografx was so we went inside and I must say I was blown away the first time I seen games like Blazing Lazers and Legendary Axe on display... keep in mind at that time my "high tech" system was the 7800, so this was definitely a BIG step up... Fast forward a year later and I had to decide between buying a Genesis or a TG 16, so the gf and I decided to rent both systems with a few games each... we rented Blazing Lazers, Alien Crush, Bonks Adventure and Legendary Axe for the TG 16 and Sonic, Altered Yeast and a few others for the Genesis... We liked the Turbo far better and ended up getting it, which I still have to this day... What a lot of people dont realise is that when you run the native hardware through RF on CRT televisions the Genesis video output is terrible, even through composite it doesnt get much better... the Turbo just looked much cleaner and vibrant video wise... the SNES also looks good through RF, not sure what sega did wrong lol If you're looking for what the TG16 can do audio wise try Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe II and Ninja Spirit, amazing soundtracks.... Anyway, outstanding video as always good sir! ... I always enjoy your vids

I actually liked the TG-16 despite being a Sega kid. Although, I felt it was a bad choice to have one controller and no composite without an add-on. If they were going to make it that big, they should have built the turbo tap and composite in :P

Here's the thing about the TG16. I had one as a kid. By almost any measure, it was the wrong choice in comparison to the Genesis. But looking back, there are no regrets. The TG16 was so much fun in it's own right that all I have are fond memories of unique games with distinct personalities.

Another Great video! I look forward to them! Considering the TG16 really was meant to compete with the famicom...it was forced to not only compete with the nes here, but also the mighty genesis and eventual super nes. I have always wondered what would have happened if NEC would have quickly brought it here in 87 or 88. Im not sure what took a critical 2 years for them to bring over. It may have made the difference between success and failure. Maybe not. Its fun to speculate though. I truly look forward to your next video!!! Can't wait!!! Thank you for taking the time and doing your part in preserving gaming history!!

You are right! Even one year would've made a huge difference because there was nothing this powerful on the market at that time!!! Just imagine if it were a success we would've had a turbografx 32 or a turbografx 64!! Damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why NEC? Why????? Lol

Great job on this and your first episode for the pc engine. You’ve certainly done your homework. I definitely learned some stuff I didn’t know and I had one of these in the 90’s and while I only have the mini right now this story really is fascinating. Thanks for putting so much hard work into this.

Along with the Neo Geo, I never knew anyone that had a TG16 when I was a kid. I understand the NG because of the cost but I was puzzled by its rarity.

Why do PC Engine sound tracks sound so muffled and grainy?

11:14 - ugh, why do you stretch the game footage
@PlayerOneStart
@PlayerOneStart 4 жыл бұрын
This is how my capture device records the footage. My composite to HDMI device automatically stretches the aspect ratio, no way to shut it off. I don't have the money for a better card at the moment.

i had all three snes sega and TG when i was in jr high, i dropped out of the console market after that. im glad i did cause the whole cd rom disaster with sega and then later with 3do and cdi was terible i never even paid much attention to them . i later started buying console games when Sony started in the late 90;s .i didnt like the high price of the HuCards. so i just kind of left it. but there were some great games for TG
