The Biles rule is absolutely insane. I agree lessor athletes shouldn’t even think of trying those extreme moves, but to score her less than isn’t fair sportsmanship. Score her abilities, and if she win’s everything sobeit, once she retires others can win top spot . This everybody get’s a trophy is for nursery school.

It's super impressive, but I do get why it was banned. Having no partner with your head towards the ice? Just too dangerous to allow. Even though lifts allow you to be upside down in pairs, thats a case when you have someone to stop you hitting the ice. In singles, you don't have that

@@loudemopsychic as a hockey player, the rule came very quickly when i was growing up that ALL coaches on the ice must wear a helmet. Rules at the NHL level now require helmets and a half shield. That being said, they don't want to encourage more upside-down activities. Practicing them or performing them, etc. ALL contribute to brain injuries. No, not the moment they're upside down, but the moment they contact the ice, and potentially slam down on it without the ability to prevent hitting their head, because it's ice. So, the balancing act lands at the question, do we make them wear helmets? It's not an extreme sport. And we want to see it grow. But we also can come up with an extreme sport version which, to your fortune, they have! They have guys in helmets hitting quarter pipes and kickers now! ON ICE! CHECK IT OUT! Protect your head! those things are valuable

In the vein of the Stanky rule, Sean Avery also led to a rule limiting what a player in front of the net can do in the NHL. I think it was Brad Marchand that led to licking your opponent being specifically mentioned as unsportsmanlike conduct. Also, the success of the Edmonton Oilers, led by Wayne Gretzky, that led to the change in rules that power plays from minor penalties would end after a goal was scored.
@LarryBlair

@tomfisher6422 Completely wrong. The rule regarding a minor penalty ending if the other team scored was changed in 1956 because the Montreal Canadiens were so dominant on the power play. The Gretzky rule was a change to limit obstruction.

Simone- The point is that those two things doesn’t have anything to do with each other. She should be able to score the most points she can for her career. As an athlete she can be at the top of her game or cement her standing as the greatest ever until years later when someone else comes to challenge that. But it messes up her (real value) if the great things she does is nerf for “others safety”. At the Olympic level they should know their capabilities and how not to hurt themselves. It also should not be Simone’s responsibility to dial it down so they won’t “think” they can do what she can. It’s crazy that the bosses went and did it anyways. You shouldn’t value someone less to make everyone else feel better. That would be incredibly disrespectful to any athlete

I don’t like the rule change where in ice skating competitions, you can do unlimited number of jumps to pile on points. So you can do 15 jumps of medium quality to beat someone who did 7 jumps of high difficulty with excellent quality. Or do almost the same routine as the previous competitor and add one more jump to pad score so can win.

The FIS changed the very scoring system for the Alpine Ski World Cup with the pronounced intent of stopping Ingemar from winning it again. You missed the NFL defensive legend who had a rule changed because his brutal style of play terrorized offensive lineman and quarterbacks; and probably left many of them with permanent brain injuries. David "Deacon" Jones played defensive end; mostly with the Los Angeles Rams, for 14 seasons and in that time span he only missed playing 6 games. We all know the term "sacking the quarterback," but Deacon Jones invented it, literally. He used to talk about "putting the opposing lineman in a burlap sack and beating them with a baseball bat" and doing the same thing to opposing quarterbacks. At the time Deacon Jones played (1961-74) quarterback sacks weren't an official NFL statistic; however, modern statisticians have discovered that when Jones retired, he was the career leader in quarterback sacks and is the number 3 all time leader in quarterback sacks today behind Bruce Smith and Reggie White with 173.5 sacks. Deacon Jones deadly tactic was the head slap. He didn't invent it, he just perfected it. His hand speed and long arms allowed Jones to whack the opposing lineman on the side of their helmet. Jones wanted to disorient his opponents, make them blink so Jones could use his blazing speed to get around the lineman and go after the quarterback or chase down the opposing running back. If you watch a video showing Deacon Jones highlights you will notice his hands are taped up to protect them. What you can't see is that after taping his hands, plaster was applied to the tape. The kind of plaster that was used to make casts, for a broken arm, for instance. After the plaster dried Jones would have more tape put over the plaster. Deacon Jones played Left Defensive End. Imagine you're the Right Tackle on the opposing team and you get whacked in the head ten to twenty times during the game. How much energy are you going to have left in the Fourth Quarter to continue trying to stop Jones? Probably not a whole lot, and your mental capacity might have lost something as well. After Jones retired the NFL outlawed the head slap. Here are two short videos which will show you Deacon Jones' greatness: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haLGnqh5mNx2n7c&ab_channel=NFL kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpW8iWp3osl1Y8U&ab_channel=MikeKennedy

Another NFL player who caused a rule change is Hines Ward. Even though he played wide receiver, he was aggressive and nasty when it came to run blocking. In running plays to his side of the field, rather than just blocking the defensive back in front of him, he would often come back towards the ball and absolutely destroy linebackers or defensive ends who's attention was focused on the running back. Eventually, the NFL changed the rules that prevented a player from doing this. Here is one example of the kind of nasty blocks he threw all the time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boLQo4SviNqeqJY

Before watching this video I could only think of one player that had to require a rule change. Wayne Gretzky. He was so fast at the wrap around goal, that they had to widen the distance between the net and the back of the rink to allow more players able to get back there and challenge him. ... and I didn’t see that here 😅
@djm5687

The rule change had nothing to do with Wayne Gretzky. The NHL moved the nets further away from the backboard in order to increase scoring. It didn't work that well, and the NHL moved the nets back to their original distance a few years later.

That isn't why they widened it. It was to his advantage to have more room to work in his "office." Many speculated that the "Great One" himself requested it. It doesn't make any sense to widen it for the wrap around and it is usually coached from a young age for D-men not to chase players behind the net. Good players wait for the D to commit behind the net and then simply go out the other side. I think you must be referring to the video game.

Well, in the world of Cricket, Sir Don Bradman's achievements are closure to that of gods than any other player. He has a batting average of 99.94, while the second highest is just above 60. The British were so afraid of him that, that in specific test series, they invented a special tactics to stop him. They put 7 fielders in the on side, and started bowling full tose balls, aimed towards his body. Bradman still managed to score some runs in the series, but Australia ended up losing. The series itself became infamous as "Bodyline" series. For long, the rule of bowling a full tose ball above vest height has been banned. There is a TV series just focused on the series, in which Hugo Weaving played the role of Douglas Jardine, the English captain back then, and the progenitor of Bodyline.

The entire NHL community was a little more than outraged when Crosby did that. A lot of us think he should have been fired from the sport. But instead, he got little more than a slap on the wrist in our eyes. Slashing is never going to go away, but for gods sake, if you do it have a little bit of respect and don't try to cut the guys damn hand (or whatever body part) off. That's just unsportsmanlike no matter how you slice it.

oh man, the 5 second foul to Shaq was famously a joke from Pop the coach of the Spurs. The ball is not "given back" to the other team after free throws, there's rebounding if the shooter misses. It's only back to the other team if the shooter makes the second free throw.

The reason why the NFL can ban horse collar tackling but still allow hair grabbing is because there's consistency in the size of a jersey collar and variability in the length of ones hair. Banning horse collar tackling is fair because everyone has the same size collar on their jersey. If they banned hair pulling, every player with dreads or long hair would be at a huge advantage that would only get better if they let them grow longer. If the NFL wants to ban hair pulling, they would either have to put in place rules surrounding hair length which would have significant push back due to dreads potentially being religious in nature, or brace for a massive abuse of the rules when every NFL player starts growing long hair.

You forgot Jim Brown. Running back and actor Jim Brown played another sport: LACROSSE. In fact, he's in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He had so many rules changed because of him, his stature and his style of play, the game is completely different than it was during his time at Syracuse. For instance, you can't merely tuck the ball against your chest inside the stick's head and run down the field like a running back. You can't push players out of the way like a running back. And you must now pass the ball at least once, and can't just run down the field and shoot.

The hair one is not ridiculous at all. If you ban it then having long hair has an advantage as that's more surface area a defender can't tackle or the addition of yardage with penalties. Players can tie up the hair if they really need to. It sucks on both sides of this argument, but the horse collar tackle was causing season ending injuries..

17:00 - for those that think this wasn't intentional, but just him being a stinky dude, I had a buddy who played high school and college football, and he used the same tactic on purpose, to try and keep players from wanting to tackle him. Sometimes he would pee himself or vomit on himself on purpose. He felt, if it detracts just a few people from wanting to commit to a tackle, it was worth it.

I noticed a major mistake on this video. When talking about the Randle play of blowing the ball foul, you was talking about the Kansas City Royals but, you showed the Chicago Cubs. I'm sure you made the mistake because both teams wear very similar uniform colors (blue and gray) they are two different teams. Also, I'm surprised that you didn't mention The Jordan Rule. When the Detroit Pistons would triple and even quadruple team Michael Jordan when he had the ball to prevent him from shooting. Other teams started doing it so the NBA created The Jordan Rule making it so teams can't gang up on a single player beyond 2 players.

I saw a game once where the goalie and another player collided. The shortly after the camera focused back in the goalie who was on his hands and knees over a large and very rapidly growing pool of blood. The other player's skate had slit the goalie's neck and he was quickly bleeding out right there. The goalie survived, but it was terrifying to see that much blood coming out of someone so quickly.

Wow, never heard of Leo Duracher! Wow, Ricky Williams was so good he was drafted straight out of college! Wow, players hacked Shaq to get him to the line. Not even Wilt had heard of that! Wow, players get one shot when they’re fouled! Wow, Shaq “missed all 11 free throws he made!” Wow, 324 pounds is closer to 146 kilos than 147 kilos! Wow, Tom Dempsey had the record field kick! Wow, in 1982 no one talked about the Holmes-Cooney fight or any other sports event except Mancini-Kim! No wonder you call it the “Forever Fight,” because no fight’s ever gone longer, or my name’s Jack Johnson. Wow, slashing is “still technically legal” in hockey! 9:26 : Invalid argument. Human body can't be compared with material engineering. There are thousands of ways to make the structure stronger. For starters, don't make it glass. Then, make it thicker. The architecture can also be changed so the stress is put on the metal beams instead of the board. If you're worried about material fatigue, then regularly change the basket, especially before a tournament where you know there are heavy players. The true reason they aren't doing any of that is all of this would cost money, and businessmen are all about "minimum cost, maximum revenue".

4:40 This rule is anything BUT ridiculous. If such moves stay legal, it's only a matter of time until everyone competing for the top is basically forced into performing them. The risk of serious injury is very high, hence the move was rightfully banned. Same with the Simone Biles rulings. You can have an impressive move AND a rule reasonably banning it at the same time. Even in this very video, the risk of injury is used as a completely justified call for rules changes regarding the Ricky rule.

Why in the world would they downgrade scores of moves in gymnastics? Whether or not Simone Biles can do them and others have yet to be able to makes no sense. It's like in figure skating when very few skaters could perform a triple axle or a quad, they didn't downgrade the scoring on those moves simply because only a few skaters could do it. Now just about every skater in competitions needs to be able to do it to achieve higher scores. Shouldn't it be the same for gymnasts? That's how athletes become better at their sport. They train harder and learn to hone their skills. If some athletes can't do those moves exactly, train harder and become even better at the ones that they can do. To downgrade scores simply because an athlete can do those moves where others haven't caught up to is completely counterproductive to the competition of the sport.

Blades with extreme curve make it very very easy to control where the puck goes when you shoot it. Think of it like throwing a frisbee. I disagree that it makes it unpredictable(maybe for the goal tender?). It makes it too predictable for the shooter it’s like having a magnified optic on a rifle at 20 yards instead of iron sights.

Shaqille had a vision problem, which could have been corrected, I think, but no one every acknowledged, noticed, or suggested it apparently. I wanted to present this to him, when he was playing, but never got the opportunity, or figured out how to meet him, unfortunately! This condition is called "strabismus." Any such condition, causes a problem with depth perception, because both eyes are need in the process! During hook shots, close in, his lazy eye was forced to engage more often, giving him enough perception to hit his target, but was also the reason that he dunked so much, besides the fact that he was so tall!

Back Flip on ice with a single foot is extremely dangerous without a ton of training ( both skill and muscle ) and proper gear ( Tight perfectly fit shoes and support bandaging around the ankle ) . You are putting an INSANE amount of pressure on your ankle - normally forced is spread out which is why our feet or broad in the base with the heel taking a big chunk of it. Think of it like a pyramid. But Ice Skates its backwards, an upside down pyramid where force is directed into the blades. Meaning you have 2 unstable points your ankle and the blade. Bsst case scenario you stumble and fall - which prevents your ankle from taking damage - but if your foot remains stable your ankle is going to take a massive brunt of force unless landing perfectly.

All NFL players wear shoulder pads ("horse collars") like a face mask . Hair is a part of the players body , so if you don't want it pulled , tuck it in. If the hair was to cover the back and not allowed to be pulled , that would prevent the defense from getting a fair hold. Imagine if there was a penalty for "inadvertent hair pull"

Of all the athletes presented, I would have to say Biles, was by far ahead of the curve with her gymnastics. I've seen her compete a few times and she's incredible. To alter scoring because of her talent, is highly biased and bad sportsmanship. If you don't think she risks the same injuries, maintaining her abilities, as others would in achieving the stunts that she is capable of, then you're terribly mistaken. And don't say it's because you don't want other gymnasts to risk injury trying to compete on her level. If you want a chance to beat her then you are going to have to be able to compete on her level. That means you need talent, massive practice, and the willpower to go that distance.

I might watch it, but as Mr. James Barisitz mentioned a few comments up, it was pure brutality likely to leave you queasy. Toning it down would defeat the purpose, but showing the true savagery would be a bit much for the screen. While not a bad idea, I think it would definitely require a very clear warning of what you are about to witness. It was carnage! It started off amazing, but became hard to watch. That being said, you are unlikely to ever see two fighters display that level of sheer will power and grit. In that regard, you are correct, that shit was EPIC!
