That Bill Russell segment was elite W Panel
@sergeistalin79162 ай бұрын
Yeah i feel people sometimes dont grasp the level of influence of Curry, he is for sure 2nd all time in influence. He changed the way teams approach offense as a team. He changed how we view players under 6´5 as possible franchise player as a scorer. He changed how teams see defense and versatility. He changed what is a good defender for a Center. He changed how we view off ball impact. He changed what is expected from a pointguard.
@SuperTtrooper2 ай бұрын
Long as you have him below Bill Russell
@YpcVixy2 ай бұрын
What do you mean people don't grasp Curry influence when most people have him top 3. I agree he is in the top 3 but the changing the game part is getting overstated. He didn't change how we view small guards because still to this day people are saying you can't win with small guards. Curry didn't change how teams play defense the skill around the league changed that because no team will defend Wemby the same way they guard AD. What we expect from a point guard is never the same since Lebron was a forward who handled the ball while the point guard was off-ball. People tend to credit Curry for things he did not do which is crazy to me.
@sergeistalin79162 ай бұрын
@@YpcVixy My point was mostly because of what you said, most people say he was influential because now teams shoot more 3s. His influense is much more than that. He changed how teams use spacing to create offense. How teams look for quicker 3s to force defenders to open the lane. He changed how we view slower Centers that were there to grab rebounds and protect the rim. Defenders that 10 years ago were elite rim protectors today are a weakness defensively(like Gobert) Now you want shorter centersbut that can guard the perimeter instead of always drop in the screens. Now teams give the keys more to shorter guards. You think you could have a league with Ja Morant, Jalen Brunson, Dame, Trae Young, DeAron Fox, etc as the best players of a team getting big money without Curry?
@YpcVixy2 ай бұрын
@@sergeistalin7916 I’m telling you the talented players change how teams are built today why would teams still want slow footed centers if everyone can create a shot off the dribble. Some of these point guards you name aren’t the best player on their team like fame,fox and some of them aren’t even even contenders because it’s hard to build around small players. Most teams today offense is still revolving around them getting to the basket but the reason they shoot a lot of threes because teams help so drive and kick opportunities happen. The Celtics just won a ring leading the league in 3point attempts they penetrated the paint to create advantages not just sit on the 3point line.
@sergeistalin79162 ай бұрын
@@YpcVixy The point is teams didnt allow players to create off the dribble and shoot 3s at that rate. If you dribble and center drops, well you run to the rim, dont you daré to take an off the dribble 3. Dame started playing like that in Portland. Is not about this season. Fine Fox is not the best player, still is the number 1 option Doesnt matter if they are contenders, is allowing them to be the number 1 option offensively. Without Curry all those guys would average 18 points and 8 assists like the traditional PG.

First, it's great to be back watching The Panel. So yeah, Prince is back, but Kobe is in my top five for the most influential players of all time. One reason is what he meant to me and my generation. I'm 26, but I agree with all the points you all made about him. I just wanted to add something. Kobe is my guy because he showed that just because he might have had average hands, a body, or athletic skills for the NBA, that wasn't going to stop him. He was going to work on every skill he could to make sure he was better than everyone. Watching that motivated me as a kid to do the same.

There is one person they have to prove something to, and that's themselves. For example, Kobe, Kyrie, and others wanted to prove to themselves that they could win or whatever by themselves.

I mean if you talk about popularity and being the literal face of bball for two decades, that's impact. The story lines, the longevity, the clout, player empowerment, being a role model, that's impact and he has a case along with curry, mj, and bill Russell and George mikan. Infact, George might have the greatest case of them all if I'm tbh with you. Those 5 are the faces of NBA bball. People outside those five are Kobe, Jerry West, wilt, Kareem, Dr j, Shaq, magic, and bird, ai.

@glyle25042 ай бұрын
MJ being number one is just obvious, and Bill Russel has a great case as just bigger than basketball in a way that makes his BASKETBALL impact lesser because his HUMANITY influence is larger-but Steph Curry changed the game in real time. Without a rule change. People talk about the three point revolution and all that and “oh the game was already progressing,” but no. The three point line was moved up in the 90’s for three years. The difference between the year prior to the third year of the line being moved up-Steph Curry had that same exact impact on three point volume in the same four years. Steph Curry simply existing as a three point shooter had the same impact on the game as moving up the three point line. There are genuinely no words for that.
