xiansheng is actually not zhongli’s last name but a honorific similar to sensei in japanese meaning teacher, though if i’m wrong correct me since i don’t even speak chinese or anything like that i just have heard it in chinese anime.

yeah it’s closer to sir/mister, teacher is laoshi (老师） . i get where the confusion is from though; xiansheng and sensei are written the same way （先生）, but they don’t mean the same thing across languages.

Xiansheng in how Childe calls ZhongLi is more of an honorific. It means sir or mister. Same way that Hutao calls him "Mister Zhongli" (if I'm not mistaken), she would call him Zhongli xiansheng in Chinese. Since this is originally in Chinese but translated into English, they brought it over too. It's like Japanese dating sims still using "-san" or "-chan" even in English translations.
