It doesn't have the crazy jazzmaster switching. Part of the appeal of the Jaguar and Jazzmaster to me is how broad a palette of sounds they can produce.

TRUE that...Until those switches age and get crusty - then misery! A simpler setup is more reliable and so maybe the best for general use. For myself I love 'em (knobs n' switches) the more the merrier.

this is the gateway Jazzmaster. I only played Specifically SGs until my previous producer put a Jazzmaster in my hands and it worked for the songs we were tracking. I then tried the American Pro in a shop and I played it for two hours straight and now I am looking at a Jazzmaster I am thinking of buying soon with a rhythm circuit

@@RingwoodLive Frankly thats why i have not bought one, they took a guitar with cool sounds and made it a 3 trick wonder. For some reason guitarists seem to think they cant handle switches, "Oh well its to complex" Does the average guitarist think themselves retarded? Even the jaguar which is the most complex of them all as far as fenders go is a simple 4 switches and a 2 vol 2 tone combo, you dont see people gutting les pauls because they are to complex and yet people want gutted jaguars even though it only really has 2 more mechanics than a les paul (low pass circut and high pass filter) I dont blame fender for this either, its what people ask for, im just irritated people underestimate themselves so much

Darrel measure the length of the neck from the last fret all the way back to the nut. Jazz masters necks are around 1/4" longer than a Strat or tele neck! I have all three. Jazzmasters are kind of a "semi" baritone guitar IMHO and I love the tone. Also the shape allows for easy and comfortable playing (even though it's a heavy guitar) while sitting down w/o a strap. Because of injuries I can't use a strap and hence I have to sit down while playing. Heck it's an old man's guitar and by heck at 68 it suits me. Old men are usually "jazzmasters" judging by the many older videos on Jazz I have watched, of course they use Tele's, Stats, Hollow Bodies and rarely a Jazzmaster guitar. A real shame. When I got mine it was the firsts instrument in my entire life that I played for 6 hours every day for an entire month. That's how much I like mine. I may string it with flatwounds when it comes time to change the strings - 10's. I already have the strings and I paid nearly $23 for them. Lastly, mine has a sort of "Shoegaze" sound and I think it's the Tremol set up, even though on my MIM Model they moved the Trem closer to the bridge. I think the sound is special.

Sounds fantastic! I've always loved the Jazzmaster for recording. That said, it's a very hard gal to play live due to it's pickups. They're uber noisy after you add extension cords, pedals and house lights. My favorite Jazzmaster I owned was the Blacktop. It had the usual Jazzmaster P90 in the neck, but replacing the stock bridge pup with a humbucker. Best of both worlds imho. Anywho, Great video and thanks for sharing!!

Love it but it doesn't have the wide swing tremelo which is a main feature. I love Bigsbys too but there is a difference. You may want to get a Squire Jazzmaster or a Fender Jaguar to see the difference. Very different feel to each type of tremelo. I dig the fact the control layout is essentially a Tele. This is a real cool guitar and one I would play the hell out of too!😎👍👍

From Leo: Glad you reviewed the Jazzmaster. You are right about it being a comfortable guitar to play in the seated position. Mine is the old style with the traditional tremolo and the added tone and volume control circuits. You were able to get great tones without them. Yep, they do have some serious hum issues. The Jaguar is pretty interesting also, and the metal installed around the single pole pickups gives a fatter tone and limits the hum.

If you do another video on this please run some dirty toans through it. Like a big muff or something because I can't really find any videos that aren't customized or running humbuckers. Thanks -Alex

Nice demo Darrell!! That's an interesting Jazzmaster!! I love Bigsby's on Gretsch or Gibsons but it almost seems like sacrilege on a Jazzmaster!!

Interesting to compare Fender vs G&L. Telecaster vs ASAT; Strat vs Legacy; JM vs Doheny. Did Leo manage to improve the breed?
@martysquire1054
@martysquire1054 5 жыл бұрын
All I have to say is that when Leo was designing for the other post buyout brands. Even he in his humility had to concede that he got it all right first time. Even Stradivarius probably designed a few cello's for import manufacturers after running out of his stash of decent wood.

If you can get your hands on an ASAT Classic, ASAT Special, or the Comanche with the MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickups, they are fantastic guitars. Treble bleed caps on the volume, bass cut knobs on the Strat bodies, upgraded bridges and trems.

Never cared for MFD...I had an ASAT Tribute for a while. It sounded good, just a bit too hot. I have the passive treble bass circuit in my MIM Strat. All my strats from here on out will receive that mod.

Jeffrey Richard For every musician, there is a different setup. You do you! I have MFD’s in my ASAT, Fralin’s in my partscaster, some ridiculously hot humbuckers in my Suhr ... probably you would think all of them too hot, but they work for me, and I can always turn them down...

I've always been a strat/tele guy for the last 30 years and finally gave in and purchased a jazzy several months ago just to fill out the arsenal. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The jazz is now my number one go-to guitar and I curse fender for it. The Jazzmasters just have that magical jangle that fit perfectly in the rhythm mix and make it sparkle.
