Rare to see, 100% pure possum love!! I've had similar affection even from ones taken briefly from the wild that needed a good bath to rid of parasites and when drying them off, they'd reach over and give me what appeared to be kisses of appreciation, even after a tumultuous 20 minute bath. miss mine also... he used to walk down the block with me with no leash, his kitty litter was pine shavings and couldnt make him bite me. Lots of eskimo kisses and nibbled his cheeks all the time LOL He live for about 3 years and 9 months. He was a special rat

@@reign6of6e6terror No. They live longer in captivity than they do in the wild as long as you feed them the right foods and socialize with them. We don't keep ours in a cage at all.

It's how they show affection. Kinda wierd, but cute. They drool on you and lick you and rub their cheeks on you. It spreads their scent, just like cats, but wetter.

ct92404 actually possums are gentle idiot chickens that just hiss a lot and nothing more. they are quite easy to tame and rats or even chickens are more aggresive than them

Pookie and Pepper, they're doing just fine, thank you! Still in the drawer snuggling up to each other and quiet as can be. In the seven months we've had them we've yet to hear them make a sound. They're clean, use a litter box and always groom after a meal. Speaking of which, they love Costco's canned chicken breast, grapes, dry cat food mixed with crushed egg shell, freeze dried crickets and grasshoppers, vitamin D periodically and dates. Quite the extensive diet! I've built them a larger shelf below the drawer should they require more space and a wooden ramp was just completed making access easier.

I have one right now and can say, yes! They carry thing in their tail, and know very well how to use their opposeable thumbs. They're also very timid, and can be rather clever in their ways to both escape their cages, and in the way they hide. Pollo (mine) got out and I couldn't find him anywhere. Went to bed and when I woke up, went to get socks. Pulled out the sock drawer and there a little opossum was! He'd built a sock-fort. =D

Ok , I'm just beginning to try to learn about these creatures. Mainly, because I see them more and more. Usually around the trash bin and sometimes in the food we put out for the other guys. I'm not generally freaked out about them ,they mostly run away..but I have had a few do that hiss, fangs bared deal..which can be a little unsettling at night. But I think I heard here that they are North America's only marsupial? I did not know that.

They very rarely bite. You can (though I don't recommend doing this with a wild one) practically put your hand between its jaws while it's hissing and trying to look scary and it won't bite you.

AAAAALLL those TEEEEEEEEETH!!! & not ONCE did I ever get seriously chomped on by any of my sweet rescued possums!!!(One of my human kids bit me really hard, when she was getting her baby teeth in...it was band-aid-worthy, to be sure, but not intentional.) There was one little guy who impressed my Irish boyfriend so much, back in the day, that he named the baby "Jamie O'Possum". The young man, formerly not much of an animal lover, was converted into an animal-fanatic by our dear little friend-with-a-tail !!! Possums (& O'Possums!!!) deserve all the love and support we can give them.
