@metronicmagician18163 жыл бұрын
@@sam43532 if you’re pulling the not an RPG because it doesn’t “let you role play” you do know the majority of RPG games that exist don’t actually let you role play like that right? In fact a majority of RPGs really only count for RP with their combat. Note Fallout 4’s story doesn’t really hold well because the Institute is laughable so this is far more noticeable, but it’s about on par with other RPGs for how much narrative agency the player has. Seriously games give a lot less player agency than people would like to think even NV for most of its time. This is more on how well NV hides its lack of player agency (since you really only have 1-2 outcomes for most quests) than a positive on fallout 4, but in reality fallout 4 is about the same as most RPGs that exist when it comes to player agency. It just doesn’t hide that fact as well.

Inherently what is a fallout game? What are the critical foundations of gameplay mechanics that make fallout, a fallout game? Everyone wants to include what they think should or should not be in the fall franchise for what we failed to do first and foremost is decide inherently what a true fallout game is. That is what seems to me, is the problem for both Bethesda and Fallout fans, it’s a different boat for different groups, and Bethesda went for the most money
@THECABBAGEMAN193 жыл бұрын
And to be fair, fallout 4’s world is quite expansive and well designed. To not credit Bethesda for the world they created would be naive, just because it isn’t filled with amazing story and factions does not mean the world isn’t amazing. It’s sad how much the Commonwealth is brought down by the lacking of RPG elements and good story.
@mykeh31553 жыл бұрын
@@THECABBAGEMAN19 I see that same thing all the time and it always bothers me, people just seem to dictate how a franchise should be based on the game they enjoyed the most, not realising that a different game under the same franchise doesn’t mean the same or even similar experience. Bethesda want to experiment, want to make new things instead of repeating the old, that means there will be things vets wont like, but also potentially new things they do like. Makes me sad that they get so much hate for trying new things even though we despise all the games that repeat themselves with each title, just doesnt make sense to me. I love fallout 4 for the world, the design, the things you can do and many of the smaller stories. Main story was meh but I didn’t care, it only affects the overall experience when you let it. I thought the perk system was better, sure it was presented in a linear way but it made things much easier to plan out in game as I was playing and let me enjoy the game at a pace I wanted, not something I could say about playing NV. Fallout NV (currently replaying) was ok at best for me, its dialogue wasnt interesting, often just ended abruptly or had characters that started dialogue only to give you the same options over and over whilst acting like its the first time each time you speak to them. The world was empty, the combat was boring (and I dislike using vats), even the quests felt cheesy at times. The beginning of the game is the part I dislike the most, it’s just too slow and empty, much more tedious than the intro and first few quests of 4 IMO. I even rate 76 as a better game than NV purely because I get drawn in by the lore and want to keep exploring, but the lore is just so thin in NV that I get burnt out so quickly. That being said, they are all good games, I enjoy all of them and sink a lot of hours into each, some people just see criticism of their favourite game as slander. And yet saying this usually ends up with some dumb argument about how I’m not a fallout fan or something lmao.

It's really the same thing with Skyrim, there's just really no good substitute for games like that. Sure there are games that have come out since then that are _kind of_ like Fallout, and _kind of_ like Skyrim, but none of them really hit the mark. There's just really nothing else to play, unfortunately, I mean what else is there? These games are in a weird niche where they are really flawed, and it's really obvious, even to people who enjoy them, and yet they're really addicting at the same time. Those musings you had starting from 16:05 sum up the game pretty well. Fallout 4 really does feel like a looter shooter in the vein of Borderlands or Destiny. Maybe the reason why Fallout 76 had a multiplayer focus is to take the series even closer to that type of game.

See I first played fallout 4 in 2019, on my Xbox one? No bugs and heavy mods, it was super fun and I had a great time, then at the end of 2019 they updated the creation club and somehow broke downtown boston along with other areas. Now even in vanilla I can't travel the southeast of the map without crash to desktop and like 1 frame a minute, and can't even get to goodneighbor, swans pond and anything past just doesn't work even with the patch mod, even with reducing the amount of things loaded downtown like reduced enemies and no god rays etc, and its heartbreaking because I enjoyed wandering for hours chilling in fallout 4 more than I did in New Vegas in all honestly..
