I would say the age of GTA5 is not the problem, based on how Skyrim, the Fallout series, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, and many older games are "plug and play" sandboxes for modding. The problem with GTA 5 is that it was not made to BE moddable. The fact you are trying to mod a non-moddable game is why you need to download a third-party program to use as the mod platform. It is just doing janky workarounds to make mods functional at all, much less make those mods be halfway stable. Worse yet, that aforementioned third-party program does not work at all for the Epic Games version of GTA 5, so a mod menu is the most you will ever be able to do. Let's hope GTA 6 is designed and built to be modded.
