The town of Garut in Western Java, Indonesia is a quiet place-that is, until Voice of Baceprot takes the stage. While most people in the town live tranquil, pastoral lives, teenagers Firdda, Widia and Euis thrash out and rock hard. The band has shot to fame for playing heavy metal in the religiously conservative country. After gaining popularity, VoB began to face criticism for performing while wearing hijabs. Still, they continue to shred-an inspiration for everyone with a little bit of music and a little bit of hardcore rebellion in their souls.

For anyone who insist that Islam in general forbids music, a short google search will show you histories of Nasheed and Sufi music, existence of Yunus al Katib, the one who wrote the first Arabic music theory, and even musics from non-Arabic places such as Southeast Asia and Africa. Heck, if we go to the basics, adzaan itself is more than just a call, it is sung, by the ex-slave Bilal, and under the permission of the prophet Himself. Islam has many sects that have a varying degree of permissing or prohibiting music based on their interpretations, but saying Islam as a whole denies music removes the history and nuances of the religion and culture.

It is not uncommon to have the the long parts of the vowels, like for example Hayya Ala Shol(Aaa) and Hayya Alla Fal(Aa), to have escalation and descalation of notes. How L(aa) Illaha could be sounded in a lower notes compared to the rest of the verses. A bit like the Swedish Sheep Calling (Kulnig) if I one could compare to other calling method. It is the case on how Adzan is presented in Maghrib Indonesian television, and the reason why adzan contest aren't just who can shout the loudest to wake Uncle Fadhil.
