I will never forget my grandfather's German Shepherd. I used to play a lot hide and seek with him when I was a kid because my grandpa had a big house with a big yard. Normally I would throw stick in the yard and run in the opposite direction hiding under front stairs or in garage. No matter how I tried to hide behinds wooden logs, dirty carpets and garden tools I was always found within 1 minute. Once I tried to throw stick as far as I could to the garden and then immediately go to the ground floor of the garden entrance. I locked it (yes, this dog could jump on door handle and push it to open it by his own weight, lol) and run to the first floor and hide in the quest room. I took two bedsheets and made cocoon of myself and hide in the corner under widnows backloths. After this I heard him enter from the front door and wondering around the house. After 3-5 minutes he entered my room. He started sniffing really loud and checking each part of the room. When he finally started investigating my side he stick his big as bucket nose under mine head and did three quick: *SNIFF* SNIFF* SNIFF*. After that he put paw on me and start barking. Stop hiding you silly! I was probably like 8 years old and he was less then 2. This video sends similiar vibes. I miss you Nero, mine genuine best friend... Hopefully we will play again afterlife you cheater!

That was actually fun to watch! I love it when he came back the second time and expected you to be where you were last time. Then he was startled to find you in an "unexpected" place. It's great to realize dogs can absolutely reason about where you will "likely" be. Like doing probability in his mind, and then being like, "I did not expect you to be under there hooman!!"

You'd think their smell/hearing would make them know immediately where the owner is. Aren't their senses like a billion times stronger than ours? I'd like someone to explain this to me :(. Do they need to be trained to smell?

@@r34ct4 training can help, but another thing is that often homes especially are just covered in the scent of a person anyways and when you have recently been on top of the bed, it's hard to exactly pinpoint that you are now under it instead. think of how a smell tends to permeate a room when we can smell something strong - for a dog, smells can also seem to spread throughout a room

Hide and seek with the dog is a lot of fun. Even more fun with 2 people. One person distracts the dog while the other runs off and hides. It's a great game to play while hiking in the woods. Used to do that with my daughter. As soon as the dog would run off to find my daughter, I would run off in the opposite direction. Drove the dog nuts but she loved it

It is a fun game. For some reason at certain age we think it is not suitable to be played with other people anymore. Why must it be so? Doing things we did as a kid would be healthy for us in many ways.
