jesbsrn in the wild their mothers usually force them in the rivers or whatever body of water they hang out in. She will take them by the back of their necks and push them under water. They have to learn fast. Bingo has is easy hahaha....

An animal has an instinct of self preservation. This otter just wants to make sure it is able to retreat from the water in that interest under his own power. If you all will provide him a way out of the water and container, that he can discover on his own he will most likely not be afraid of any body of water. You have to work within his natural instincts. So place a stool inside and outside for egress and ingress of the bathtub and I will bet he will use it.

conundrum conundrum well he can get in and out just fine with this blue tub so they DID figure out a solution. May not be identical to how you or I would have done it but who gives a crap, they worked it out.

Ｓｏｍｅ other otter owners do this. You just have to be really careful. Many pet stores treat fish with formaldehyde. It's hard to find LIVE food-fish.

Is this something they do in Japan? In USA, basically any store that sells fish will have a tank of goldfish that’s labeled as ‘feeder fish’. They are sold exclusively as food for other fish and animals.

I don't think it's exclusive to Japan because it's done for "health" reasons. (Is what I was told by the store.) Where I was living in the US, the PETSMART didn't even have LIVE feeder fish.

No way!! I used to keep a pretty substantial fish tank with a few species with a taste for fresh fish! Now this was probably 20 years ago. At that time even Walmart had a tank of feeder fish. Buuuuuut they WERE always bringing diseases into the tank so I’m not surprised that they started treating them.

A wild otter would have followed it's mother into the water at an early age. Bingo was being hesitant. Otters like to forage along river banks and only enter deep water to cross over. Glad he finally made it!

Bingo is so cute! Though, i think if he had a slightly easier way to get out, like some kind of little plastic box filled with water, to use as a step, he might feel more comfortable. He has to heft himself out rather then walk out. Most banks are sloped so a otter can just walk out. Maybe have a little slide too, because otters are known to like sliding.

Actually I don’t think that would have made too much of a difference because baby otters are known to hate swimming because their coats aren’t fully waterproof yet and they get tired easily
