The Orchestron was, and always will be Kraftwerk's secret weapon. They even have it on their newest "song" (really a remix) called Non Stop

It's really cool that they used it on that track! It says the copyright is from 1991 which may be how long they have had the track made. Love the Orchestron! 🎹🤙🎶

Brilliant deconstruction, that sound is iconic now thanks to them - especially Uranium which got sampled for Blue Monday!! Radioactivity's choral keys give me chills every time

Thanks! I think their utilization of the instrument is interesting. The Orchestron is almost like the inverted/darker version of the Mellotron, where it's the opposite to the Mellotron in alot of ways: it's cheaper quality, not as bright sounding (lo-fi), the keys are different without any release or attack. I like it's sound and unique tonal qualities! 🤙🎹🎶

Beautifully done demo! 👏😎👍 I've done slightly similar demos for the internal sounds and sound expansion cards for the Mellotron M4000D Rack but I'm not a particularly good keyboardist and slow at memorizing/terrible at sight reading so I just occasionally "hint" at recognizable melodies for better or worse! 🤭 I mention this because the M4000D expansion card 04 is all Orchestron, Optigan, and Talentmaker samples and were sourced from Pea Hicks' excellent library. 👌

And Yet Some People Say That "Kraftwerk" Made Music Without A Soul. How Wrong Is That!
@Musik_Arbeiter3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha I think other listeners misunderstand Kraftwerk's music: much of their music is precise and sterile sounding, yet it's rich in tone and warmth. I personally have always loved their music due to it's "otherworldly" sound and ethereal yet retro vibes! The Orchestron was both rich in its tone and harmony for bringing their tracks together with it's signature atomic-age sound! 🎹🎶

@@Musik_Arbeiter "Neon Lights", "Computerlove", "Ohm Sweet Ohm", "Morgenspaziergang", "Europe Endless" Are Definitely Songs With A Soul, For Example. @Musik_Arbeiter3 жыл бұрын
@@M.EngelhART I personally always felt Trans Europe Express was their most "soulful" or feeling album, but others claim Autobahn is. But my favorite has always been The Man Machine! I even hear many fans love Radio Activity, but Computerworld is probably the most critically acclaimed album! Honestly I know it's unpopular opinion but Electric Café has always been an underappreciated album from my perspective. In terms of how they embraced digital soundscapes going from subtractive synthesis to FM and Vocal synthesis along with sampling it's pretty amazing to me! 🎹🎶

Excellent. A curiosity, why is the original orchestron so rare and unobtainable? And how did kraftwerk get such a clean sound out of it? Good discs and spotless orchestron? However, I reiterate my amazement in not finding even a model around or a good video on youtube
@Musik_Arbeiter Жыл бұрын
I'd suggest checking out GForce Software's video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKfPg5aejLmUo5I Based on what was stated in the video: "It is estimated only 50 to 100 were made." That's a very low number of available units at the time, it's estimated that less of that number are still around today. I heard Florian was originally the member of the band to first hear/see the Orchestron and chose to buy it. After buying it it's clear it was very influential in their development of Radioactivity and Trans-Europe Express. The company folded in the late 70s so their instruments were never continued or manufactured. As for how Kraftwerk got cleaner tones out of it: I'm guessing when the instrument was initially released/made the quality of the discs and the unit were in much better condition. I love to play the Vako Orchestron samples, its a beautiful sounding instrument with a very unique tonal quality! 😄🎹🎶
