Fun fact: the first boss you fought here was Arachnus - the same boss from Metroid II which gave you the springball! It's fun how the game takes those same enemies from the game and gives them new twists after being infected by the X parasites

I really like the addition of the release year in the UI. In a sense, your discovery of the Metroid séries feels like a trip down history lane, so it's small details like that that adds to the entire picture

For reasons only tangentially related to this video series, I actually also played through the 2D Metroid games for the first time recently! I'd love to see you take on Dread-and maybe Zero Mission and Samus Returns-once you've had some time to not get burnt out on the series.

Glad you’re doing these play throughs, always wanted to get into Metroid but just couldn’t as a child. Watching someone else play the game as an adult has been somewhat fulfilling

This is going to be good to watch, Fusion is my favourite Metroid game. Great atmosphere and a sense of isolation all throughout. The enemies hit a lot harder in this game too, so one has to be careful.

I actually graduated high school the year this game came out. This game has some great twists and some less thrilling sections, but I love it overall.

This was my first Metroid game (actually my first modern console game) and the first time I fought the first enemy I tried to play stealth. I accidentally absorbed the X after the fight and was immediately terrified because I thought it would cause something bad to happen. Then I got to Adam and found out it was fine.

Fusion is such a mixed bag for me. It introduced a lot of great things into the series (ledge grabs, improved map, X parasites, missile toggle button, shinespark slope tricks), but also introduced some of the worst things into the series (dialogue heavy plot, railroaded exploration, back-loaded item acquisition, Adam).

I do like the payoff we get with Adam in Dread. Other than that, yeah, it kinda seems like it defeats the point of metroid to have the game so linear.

@@Ikine557 Dread is like the anti-Fusion. It takes all the bad things and makes them good. Like there's railroading, but it feels organic and less noticeable. There's dialogue heavy plot but the dialogue is more restrained and purposeful. There's back-loaded item collection but... well that's just always going to be a problem.
