I am SO GLAD they changed the mob spawning light level... Spawn-proofing was a NIGHTMARE before 1.18. I would light up my base with torches EVERYWHERE, but _somehow_ mobs would still spawn because I missed a few extremely hard to notice patches of light level 7.

technically my first version was OG pocket edition that only had like grass, stone and flowers and you couldn't even craft, but i only did that once. then my first Java version was i think the update that added dyed wool, i played on creative superflat worlds with my 2 siblings, we all played on the same account and moved in to a village each in a ring, we added basements and tried to use daylight sensors for lighting and automatic doors that stayed open at day, trying out stuff from the old creative guide book and making animal pens and tents and stuff in one big superflat world with large paths of random tnt holes to guide you

This was definitely close to the version I grew up with, which was pretty much og pocket edition if not a few updates into pocket edition. I distinctly remember when endermen were added because I was terrified and always made my sister join the game to kill them for me. I still hate caves and mobs because of how creepy old Minecraft was. Playing single player worlds is still off-putting to me, idrk why.

I think the first time I played Minecraft was back in 2014-2015, I started with the good old tutorial world, after I got the hang of it, I started a world that lasted over 3 years, now I grind Java mod packs and wish I can go back to 2014

Something I really miss about old versions is that when you got on, something would almost always have been added or changed. Updates were small but frequent and there was really no information on it for most players (at least in advanced) so it'd be interesting and new every time you logged on. With modern Minecraft you can't escape all the stuff about the new updates, you'll pretty much know everything before it comes out, whether you want to or not. Also, updates are only once a year, and there are so many snapshots for the new versions that you can pretty much play every feature very quickly. You already know everything about the updates and there's no real intrigue about the content anymore at that point. Also, the colors are so dull now, and with every new mob it feels more and more like the original charm has been completely replaced. With a new one I suppose, but it's just not the same. Minecraft was always supposed to be a medieval fantasy world, and it still can be seen that way, but no fantasy content is being added anymore. I feel like it's all very focused on realism now. I think if they added a new dimension it could bring some of that old charm back, or if they added a fantasy themed biome. Also, all of the new features you have to go out of your way to interact with. I think they should add more features that the player doesn't have to go out of their way just to see, stuff that just appears in casual gameplay. As of now, all the new features feel especially dull for the average players because most of the new content caters to niche aspects of the game. Whether the crab or penguin won still would have had the same issue, they're all catering to VERY niche parts of the game and most players just won't interact with it. Minecraft isn't bad, I just think Mojang needs to allow the devs more creativity. Their management is horrible from what I hear and won't let them add things that actually change the game in any way, thus all the niche features that most people won't care about. They can do a lot with April Fools snapshots and could in the Nether update because management couldn't apply "reality" as strictly to those things. KZbinrs probably engage with new content a lot more often so I doubt most of them realize just how little these features come up or are actually relevant to the average, non-content-creating players. If you're not building a super farm, you don't need crafters. If you don't have a huge army of wolves that you bring everywhere, you don't need wolf armor. If you don't care much for loot (and prefer to craft those things yourself), you don't need the deep dark or trial chambers. I'm not saying the features are bad or unnecessary, but we need more features that apply to general gameplay. Ancient cities and trial chambers can be hard to find, but at least they provide fun gameplay. Sculk sensors and crafters are good for redstone, and now players that didn't bring wolves with them before because they were scared of them dying can bring their wolves out! Those things are great! But most of these updates just feel like quality-of-life updates, rather than exciting new content, due to the features being so niche. A new dimension or biome that's fantasy themed, or a new mob that's in multiple biomes in the overworld, would do WONDERS for the Minecraft community right now. Players would probably be overjoyed at the prospect of one of those things, and I think it would help players enjoy the Sandbox part of the game more. Going out and seeing a whole new array of blocks and a new landscape would be incredible! Devs can go wild! Blue trees? Blue WOOD? And that's NOT the entire point of the update? Those things can be thrown in as casual features that still satisfy a lot of players and fit in well with the original feel of the game. Seafoam green grass? Pink water in that biome? All sorts of weird things can be done, but I think if Mojang adds a fantasy area, they should lean HEAVILY into the fantasy aspects. If they did, it could be gamechanging, pun intended. As for gameplay, imagine there are bubble blocks or something, or bouncy leaves, that players can use to parkour their way through the biome! They can build on the tops of trees because they could have flat leaves on top (think savanna), etc. Just an area where people can really experience something fun that reminds them of their inner child. Edit: Also, I feel like the Minecraft Horror community is a great example for this. People are desperately craving something really new and exciting from the game, not just something you see and think, "Oh, cool". It may not be horror, but just a bit of unknown in your game adds a lot. And could you imagine if they kept the announcements minimal about it? Teaser photos of the biome maybe, or at least parts of it, rather than announcing every detail about it? I know it would be difficult to do that, because a lot of bug testing and such comes from snapshots and people would know, but it would be amazing if they could do that.

@@chocobear4078 True, there's appeal to both. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the new textures but just make the foliage more vibrant, though. Old Minecraft had those bright textures because the style was emulating old games. Maybe that wasn't the intention, but it was certainly the effect. The level design felt more video-gamey as well, where modern Minecraft feels more designed to emulate real life, if that makes sense. Again, both have appeal! They're just very different things now, and in some of the changes, I feel like some of Minecraft's biggest fantasy charms have been lost. (This isn't related to what you said or the color stuff, I just felt like saying it again I guess. I'd love to see new content like that. I mean, the game doesn't need to be old again. But it'd be nice to have more of the stuff that made old Minecraft charming, not just for veterans, but also for the new ones which are mostly kiddos)

I don't actually mind too much that there's not a vanilla way to do it though (seeing as I don't really have the time for it and I'm not about to have somebody else make that either), it would just be cool to have. There are texture packs that bring back some of those things already but they usually completely replace a lot of textures rather than only affect the foliage, and foliage (including/especially grass) can be difficult to modify, or at least I would imagine so, given how foliage colors are decided by Minecraft. If you didn't know, it's actually kind of cool. They have a black and white texture to define values, and that texture goes on the grass (I believe this also applies to most of the leaves though) while a separate image file, which is simply a green and lime green gradient, also exists. Through coding, the color of the foliage is then decided through picking a pixel on the gradient image and automatically multiplying that color (multiply is a blend mode, but since you have animations in your name I assume you probably also know that lol) on the grass texture, giving the grass its green color. I imagine that's how the rare white grass block happens. I can't imagine they'd have that multiplied when there's supposed to be snow on the block. I don't really mind the texture changes, Minecraft has a built in texture pack for the old textures anyway, and vanilla tweaks has a website that lets you customize what parts you get. I just wish the foliage was more vibrant, because I do like the look of modern Minecraft too, it's just that the dull colors feel a little sad

I did a playthrough of 1.0 - 1.19 only playing the releases, no snapshots. i gave each version a few hours every day til i reached the most current version. the world was pretty weird looking where the different generation started but it was really fun.

the reasons older versions do't have sounds is because notch code the game by connect the sound files from free sound website that he found instead of saving the sound files in the game until beta 1.7 and yup those sound websites are now gone. I don't even know he can do that with java and openGL that's more like javascript LOL

The End dimension was introduced in Minecraft release 1.0. Also Minecraft 1.7 added lots of new biomes. We had new village variants in Minecraft release 1.10. Horses were added in Minecraft release 1.6.

It’s crazy seeing older Minecraft tbh. My older brother and my mom played Minecraft way before tnt actually exploded. Mom taught me how to play and have been playing since then. She stopped playing a long time ago and has somewhat started playing again, so now I’m helping her relearn how to play. It’s funny hearing her reaction to all that’s been added since she last played. I remember in one of our old worlds my brother had made a house out of tnt before it could explode. So when that update happened the entire house exploded and damaged a lot of stuff around it 💀💀 I would always make rainbow wool houses as a kid, but I’d be too afraid to place torches cuz my brother would mess with me and say that the torches could catch the wool on fire and burn the house down 😂 Minecraft was a big part of my childhood and to this day, almost finishing High school, I’m still playing Minecraft. I now have a younger step brother who’s also obsessed with Minecraft.
