Mr Zellon, you are, without a doubt, the best Jazz guitar and theory teacher out there. I've heard many good teachers, but your intellectual grasp of the matter, and ability to "dumb-down" complex concepts, so that even I get the gist, is unparcelled.

Thank you so much for these lessons. My current goal is to become a music professor, but I can't afford jazz lessons, so these videos are highly valuable. I've still got a long way to go, but I hope in the future I can teach others the same way you do.

Very creative lesson, I like the wonderful patterns you've created and how you used them. As you were playing that fantastic pattern using 5ths, I thought If one should come up with a composition styled in 5ths like that, the most appropriate title for the tune would be 'I plead the 5ths'.

:) Thanks! That's a great title!

Really great!! Thank you so much. The 'Wes' (FOUR ON SIX) part towards the end always reminds me of Pat Metheny's "'Bright Size Life"' intro. It must've also inspired him. Thanks Richie!

Great video Richie . DO you have anything on playing outside over static minor 7th chords?
@RichieZellon6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nelson...why not apply these concepts to min 7th chords?
@NelsonRiverosMusic6 жыл бұрын
well yes. But I'm looking for the scales that can be used. I assume Whole Tone? @@RichieZellon
@RichieZellon6 жыл бұрын
Truthfully, I believe any scale works depending on how you super-impose it against the original harmony. In the above lesson, I'm not thinking in terms of scales but instead in intervallic sequences. You just have to experiment...
@sarinagarber20384 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have been months trying to work out what scale or note patterns you can play inside that spacem ie once you hit the third minor, ie the Bb, where do you go for note ideas, so if you could explain what the mode or scale is, before you resolve to the G or 9th that would be awesome!

could you please cover montgomeryland funk by wes Montgomery it is the perfect solo maybe you know of it but, i believe it is like the perfect jazz blues solo. the intro to bangles baubles and beads is also great.
@chrissguitarshow2065 жыл бұрын
Richie, you may be aware of montgomeryland funk and bangles baubles and beads the first one off montgomeryland album second off fingerpickin if you ever do another wes song the first is a perfect jazz solo the second perfect chord melody both got me into jazz.

i'm rather confused by this, i have a good amount of music theory but it does not appear you are descending in perfect fifths in the first example, i really like the sound of it but i want to understand what i am doing before i memorize a pattern
@RichieZellon6 жыл бұрын
I am referring to the cycle of descending 5ths. They sometimes they can be viewed as being perf 4ths when ascending because they are simply inverted 5ths. Yes, there is room for misunderstanding because we are going "outside" with the intervals and the cycle. I recommend that you download the PDF and play and analyze it. You can then think of it in whatever terms you are more comfortable with...
@warmregards44396 жыл бұрын
ok thanks for the fast reply, i also understand that 4ths and 5ths can be the same notes ascending/descending it just appears you are doing some other whole step stuff and essentially outlining a dominant chord in a cool way

Sorry to disappoint you...but it is actually a humbucker in a P-90 casing. The guitar came with P-90s and I didn't like the sound so I switched them but couldn't fit a Humbucker, so Brandonwound pickups makes them for P-90 casings.
