I have a legit Tibetan singing bowl, hand made by Tibetan monks. You can actually make them sing without striking it with the inviter. It takes more effort to make it sing without striking it initially and you can control the sound/volume better. They are great for meditating.

Btw. That the pitch doesn't change is probably because the sound comes from vibration in the bowl. Only way to change pitch is to make it smaller I guess. :)
