His hand was underrepresented until the river. He bombed the river with with 1.5x overbet, and Rampage went over the top of that with 3x all-in. Since Rampage was UTG preflop aggressor, AA and QQ are very possible, a well as one remaining combo of A2s. That's 10 combos total that beat him, 1 combo of KK that chops, and no value hand that jams on top of the overbet that he beats.

Good analogy. I love the OG players but a lot of them just don't play cash well. Hellmuth and Negreanu come to mind for that. Not that it's an insult, I suck at cash too and feel more at home in tournament settings and I'd never have the courage to do what Rampage did in this video. I feel that Rampage has actually had much more success at tournaments though from watching him the last year and a bit and maybe stick with what you're good at, but I suppose at the same time you can never get better at something if you don't try against the best, so I respect him for going against Garrett too.

@@philliesphanatic6020 Honestly game selection reigns supreme over everything in modern poker (after reaching a certain level of strategic acumen), someone with mediocre BRM practice in the best games is going to fare a lot better than someone who is incredibly responsible playing in tough/nitty/OMC games. Gotten to the point where there are games in my area that I feel comfortable sitting with a quarter of my roll, and then others where I’m not really interested in buying in even if I can 50+ times. Online is basically dead unless the flood gates open again. Profiting in poker since like 2012 has basically been all edge seeking, the community on average has progressed to where variance and rake eats you unless you hone in on game selection or are absolutely elite. People often forget that challenging yourself in poker is in fact bad.

Yall are missing the point - there are so few combos he loses to here that rampages move should practically NEVER be a bluff. That fact alone makes this a rough spot for KK. Think about it, a bare queen never raises here - same for hands like JJ or TT, so now KK is either really good or stone dead vs this shove. Rampage could certainly play QQ or AA this way. Spot is not as snappy as you think it is...won quite a few pots from people snapping in this spot when I've got it

I think you played well or fine in some of the featured hands. Here are the hands in which, in my opinion, you made mistakes, sometimes big ones: 1. QTo. If you are going to 3-bet as a bluff preflop, you NEED to take the lead post-flop and BET (either with a value hand or as a bluff), especially when you flop top pair!! If you were planning to play this hand passively post-flop, don’t 3-bet preflop! It was entirely your fault that you lost a big pot in this hand! (You made a similar mistake on the first night in the last video with AJs, where you 4-bet preflop but played passively and check-called post-flop, allowing the villain to suck out and win a sizable pot.) 2. ATs. Check back the turn to let Eli catch up or induce a bluff on the river. Betting the turn is too strong. 3. AQ. You already noted that you got too sticky and played this hand pretty poorly. You lost way too much unnecessarily. 4. A8s vs KK. You should have folded on the turn, as you noted. Your bluff on the river was terrible and suicidal and should not have worked! You got extremely lucky that your opponent was a weak player who gave you too much respect. 5. 54s vs T9s. From a theory standpoint, you didn’t play the hand that poorly, except probably the flop bet (you should check there with almost no equity). HOWEVER, practically and from an “exploitative play” standpoint, your play was horrible. First, you DO NOT have the necessary bankroll to be able to pull off this bluff and be okay financially if the bluff fails, especially after your big loss on night 1! Second, Garrett had just witnessed your big bluff with A8s against Nik, and he is much more inclined now to call you down light (and this time, he actually had a great hand) OR to trap with a good hand and let you blast off (which is exactly what happened). I hope you learned some very expensive and good lessons from these two nights at Hustler! Again, PLEASE GET A GOOD POKER COACH NOW, especially if you wish to return to these high-stakes games in the future. Although you have improved greatly as a cash game player in the last year, you still have some surprising holes in your fundamental understanding of the game. A good coach can plug these leaks in a short time. If nothing else, ask Mariano and Wolfgang for some free coaching - they are both better players than you at the moment, especially Mariano.

It pains me greatly to see him lose almost $150,000 in two days mostly because he has irresponsible bankroll management and played poorly. THAT is why I wrote a longer comment trying to HELP him. Ethan needs HONEST criticism and constructive feedback, not just fans telling him “nice job” even after big losing sessions in which he made numerous mistakes, in order to improve and stop punting money. And I genuinely believe that is the intent of most people who criticize his play in the comments of this and other videos. They don’t come from a place of insecurity at all. We take the time to comment and criticize because we like or love Ethan and we just want him to do better and see massive success this year (which will not happen if he has another one or two sessions like this!). We criticize because we CARE about him. What Ethan needs the most right now is a reality check and some “tough love”, not blind praise and encouragement. The latter can actually hurt him greatly! What are you doing specifically to try to help Ethan do better? Or do you not care at all? Please do not make assumptions about people simply because their comments are, superficially, negative or critical. Think deeper about their true intent.

It’s too hard to play the Variance when your whole Bankroll is on the Table. That Game is too high for your Bankroll to play. Even if you won all the Games that you played at that Limit it’s not sustainable because the Variance will get you later. Basic Bankroll management says to play 5% of your Bankroll. And as your Bankroll goes up then you can go up accordingly. Yes, taking the shot is fun. You took a shot Last Year and lost around 20k of your Bankroll. But this is another level. You have to protect your winnings. And pick your spots well. Be patient, because who’s to say you’re going to win Big Tournaments every Year. There’s variance there also. And you need to separate your Tournament Winnings and not use it in your cash Games. Because now it’s showing you have a leak in your Cash Games. Because you’re losing your Tourney money in Cash. And you’ve only won a small amount in Cash Games. Before you played these Nose Bleed levels. You can hang in big Games. But I don’t recommend venturing to it unless you’re properly bankrolled. Losing 100k means you have to have 2 Million that you accumulated in Cash Games. Numbers just doesn’t support it. Building up a 2 Million Bankroll should be your Goal now in Cash Games. And by the Time you get there. You can run circles against these Pros. Because you’ll accumulate a wealth of knowledge by the Time you get there. You’re good now and can hang with them. Just imagine how good you’ll be by the Time your Bankroll is built up to their level. You’ll be 10 Times better than them. So let’s work up to their level patiently. And get some experience along the way. This one is a good experience. It’s a good teaching moment. But you’ll look more comfortable in there when you have 2 Million you’ve accumulated through the Year’s. Don’t need to rush it. It will all come naturally...

Think Tiger had big ace(top pair w nut flush draw)? flop was KQT and Ben 3-bet All In Tiger immediately after flop w AJ for Broadway. And so David was sitting immediately to Ben’s right when this happened. This was prolly on his mind thought Ben holding 34 suited lol. @Adrian89 wouldn’t say he’s out of his depth. His style of play is very aggressive, bluffs a lot and bluffers tend to think others bluff as much too. Sorta like Antonio, Jen Tilly they see weakness when ppl check/call and continue to bet under strategy that it’s very difficult to get good hands(straight, flush, boat) so when cards fill out those hands, he bluffs repping those hands. His mistake was getting involved w Garrett, cuz he doesn’t get involved in BIG pot w hand that doesn’t have large equity vs the other players he was able to bluff off cuz their hands didn’t have as much equity. And also, Garrett checking doesn’t mean weakness like other players but is strength/trapping.

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say this: to hop in and play these stakes was honestly really stupid, you’re playing for a big portion of your net worth and against the best cash game player in the world (who is on a heater and at the top on his game). So yea this should have been easily avoided…

Agree. Even though we don't know his actual net worth, it's hard to imagine that he is adequately rolled for these stakes. Even the best player in the world playing perfectly is going to take some huge losses at this level, just through the natural variance of poker, coolers, etc. And there are always going to be the people for whom even these stakes mean nothing (trust funds, business owners, etc) who come to gamble, and you're going to occasionally lose big pots to them, even when you get it in good.

Those are "nosebleed stakes" where I live. I couldn't scrape together a real small percentage of what you bought in for, so losing half of that would be painful. I think the "Solve for Why" people might have a better breakdown of how big your losses are, you better hope you get major wins in tourneys or REAL huge series of winning sessions to come back from a nearly 100 grand loss. Now I think I would get worried if I were you, you're going to need to play smart and win, because one major six figure bath after another would be painful to endure, and you might find yourself hocking those you love if it keeps up. The punting streams might have been good at lower stakes, but they get more painful at higher ones. To borrow from Weird Al's "I can't Watch This" from his "Off the Deep End" album, "That's as funny as a kick in the crotch/and that's another reason why I can't watch"...

You had the balls to play in these games so respect. Your self awareness of your table image and how others perceive you along with general gameflow bit you on that last bluff, If you noticed Garett was eyeing you like a hawk, you just didn’t sell it and there was lot of perceived weakness in your actions. Did you feel Garett was strong there? Also you shouldn’t have shown your A8 bluff, because Garett immediately knew you were capable of making big bets, he was also watching how you behaved when making that bluff. Game flow and table image is important and I completely understand man it’s a nosebleed high stakes live game on livestream, which definitely has a lot of buzz so perhaps you weren’t as adjusted to the game-Sometimes focusing on the hand and range balancing is not as important when taking shots, It’sok to play ABC in these ssessions since you are playing to profit and playing above your means, you are ok to give up on boards because profiting is more important than focusing on balancing your bluffs and value in these spots that is something you should do if you’re playing in these games more often and have the bankroll to do it, because range balancing is not urgent in the short run your better off more profitable if you’re perceived as a nit when taking shots, and then coming back to this game when comfortably rolled is when you can open up your game. Props for putting yourself out there though Like my feedback may have merit to you but again massive props for getting up thereto play at the hustler at the nosebleed. No one can tell you anything if they themselves haven’t gone up and played at this main stage, my feedback is with the deepest respect for what you are doing man. Good luck and 1 love

I don't hate the bluff on the last hand. Garret doesn't know for sure that Rampage didn't miracle river a boat. I think the bigger issue is playing appropriate stakes for your long-term bankroll/net worth so you can make those plays.

You should have started playing a lot tighter after revealing your suicidal bluff against the other player. The moment Garrett saw that, he not only knew that you could be bluffing, but that you were willing to bluff very large pots. He expected that you were likely to bluff, or be splitting the pot, very very unlikely that you had the Full House in that spot, and equally unlikely that you had Q 9 for top straight. If you had gone all in at that point, he would have almost instantly called. Your table appearance was heavily bluff-y, and there were only a few other hands that really beat him. Playing extremely tight, and showcasing only very strong hands after that earlier bluff could easily have made the difference if you had gone all in on the flop, or even the 7.

The KK fold is the worst fold I've ever seen. Under-reps his hand to trap with it then lets a known punter who bluffs too much get him off the hand. A queen is an easy call here. Like would he have folded aces ? it's ridiculous.

Not going to try to bash your game, BUT (a serious but) you should review your game with someone who’s a better player and with more experience from these type of games. Practice your range construction, what type of hands to bluff catch in certain situations. Let your ego aside for a few months and go down in stakes to work on your game and come back as a better player. These games will always be there, trust me!

Garrett's good and all, but the whole show seems to be built around him. 90% of the competition is very average. A lot easy to look good playing rich recs and degens than actually other great players too.

I really like the 54s hand. Makes a 3-barrel candidate as it unblocks pretty much every hand it's trying to fold out. Too bad Garrett happened to hold the nut bluff catcher (blocking Q9s, JTs, TT, T8s, and 97s. If he has anything less than that, it's a really tough spot for him. Both players played that hand really well, imo. (Solver seems to prefer larger flop bet, which makes sense if Rampage has Q9s and 97s and G-Man doesn't.)
