Honestly, Sonic Boom is one of those games where thinking back about it, in your mind is what better than it actually was. I think I was 13 at the time? And I thought I loved it. Then I watched it now, at 20 almost 21 years old, and g o d, it’s not as great as I thought and remembered. It feels like a fever dream now.

I like thinking that spin dashing is Sonic’s panic option, similar to how online smash players jump when in danger, except for Sonic it is spin dashing. That’s why he would attack last Lyric with it despite future Lyric telling him it was predictable.

3:03:06 the only way to explain how these paradoxes are possible is that everything in time happens all at the same time, there was never a beginning or end to the loop. It’s just a set of events that are set in stone for each character’s own timeline/story. Time is not linear. It’s not one straight line. Everything throughout time happens all at the same time. It’s not “this event is connected to that event and then that event is connected to that” no. ALL events are connected, down to the millisecond. That’s the only way to explain how the universe doesn’t break from paradoxes like this.

Suggestion: "I played Evil Zone so you don't have to". Seriously. That game is BATSHIT. Or, even better... "I played Warship Gunner 2 so you don't have to". Not gonna lie, I freakin' LOVED that game, but the grind took DAYS. You have to beat the game, then beat the game like.... three more times... all while unlocking different stuff constantly and grinding for money to unlock more, and also you have to clear levels and get their special drops that sometimes only drop over land so you have to have a cargo helicopter on your ship, or sometimes they fly over really early so you have to basically book it to a certain part of the map, etc. The story is bonkers, and the gameplay goes from "Steer your ship and aim your guns" to, in later game, "Steer your ship and hold down the autofire button but also aim your ship's giant wave laser gun at whatever you want to make no longer exist", but that takes like... four play throughs to get to. And the unlock just.... hits ALL of my tech tree boner soft spots in the BEST way. We're talking if you printed this whole unlock chart out, it'd be like... a poster for each tree and each subtree.

I played and beat this game back in like 2015 and I thought it was quite fun, though trying to do the dash sections was annoying, you had to press forwards but the camera angle changes constantly so you shift to the left and right without meaning to. That is my biggest complaint of this game.

Thinking about the time travel and how I use time being relative and timelines (literally) If I repeat myself, sorry. It's also easier to draw it out but I can't in youtube comments lol You have the 3 classic kind of lines, past, present and future. My assumption, at 3 hours in, is that the snake dude is inCREDIBLY old, having lived through all three time lines (past, present, and future). Future line is the inciting incident for the 'loop' ig, where sonic and co. time travel to past line. I will say that they take their 'future' snake with them, sonic traps him, and travels back to the future timeline. Then we have present timeline, finding the thing future did. I don't like the timelines melding with each other a lot, but some things end up being necessary. This snake dude has had one iteration, managing to live through past to future, and then past to present (present being the game). Sonic and co have two iterations, future that started the whole ordeal, and present that you play as. Plus an interesting thing being that future happens before present does in the GRAND timeline of events. SO Lyric is just chillin, vibin, being evil from past ALL THE WAY TO future. During future line is when he actually does something ig, or is atleast when sonic and co first encounter him. So future sonic team, being where they are and having access to the time travel tech, are fighting Lyric. Sonic takes the immortal Lyric to the past (where there is no longer a Lyric), and trap him there. It gets rid of Lyric in the future line, so the sonic team just goes on. Or atleast I wish that worked like that. The cutscene kinda breaks it because snake doesn't know anything when PRESENT encounters them, so it's not the same snake as future. It's a second iteration of Lyric. This can kinda be fixed in that future DOES bring theirs to the past, but further ahead in the past timeline than the one that present encounters THEN WE GET TO PRESENT Present encounters what future left behind, the Lyric that was kicked out of the future timeline. Future-now-present Lyric knows about Sonic because of what future did to trap him. so present Lyric is able to predict Present Sonic's move better. Then time travel stuff happens, present sonic travels from present timeline to past timeline (like hopping wires), behind when future's incident happened. This doesn't PREVENT the Lyric that is in the present, because he is from the FUTURE, so they still gotta deal with the first snake dude they encountered. With time travel melding together, this means future sonic *could* have encountered the Lyric that present sonic deals with, or not. But whatever happens, present CAN'T meet the Lyric they banished, for some reason or another. Present never had a snake until future did something, and present tried to deal with PAST snake anyways, so they can't have ever had their own. Lyric is therefore a quantum entity, or a paradox, having the ability to exist in the same timeline twice ig? Idk BUT anyways, this is my view of the timeline, BEFORE I have finished watching the vod. I think it's the closest I can get to explaining time travel working in this game :P We go by an assumption of the relativity of time to one another, because how I would draw it is literally 3 parallel lines, one for each tense. There can be more probably but there doesn't have to be, necessarily. So it's like drawing a colored line to represent when things exist and when people hop to what times. So that's Sonic Boom-

Regarding the Lyric paradox, I will pretend that, since present would be leaving one, and future leaves one a bit later, that they probably become one entity, fusing or some shit. SO Lyric has memories of Sonic's attack TWICE, giving him even MORE reason to call Sonic predictable, because he witnessed the same thing happen two different times. Future and present sonic and co are left as they are because they are never in the same time as each other.
