I have thought this a lot but Twoset walking the walk with what they preach about Practice is probably the thing I admire about them the most. We've heard Ray say it before, and now Carlos! It gives me so much motivation and excitement to tackle things knowing that I can improve and knowing that there are people out there--relatable, non-intimidating people like Brett and Eddy--who are doing it everyday as well. Look at the smiles on everyone's faces in this video - it's almost like a romance. Love the video! The point about the Lady Blunt at 8:20 was interesting; it sold in 1971 for 200,000 and then in 2011 for 16,000,000 which at first sounds like a lot but if you do the math that's an annual return of about 11.6%. As a comparison, if you just invested that 200k in the S&P 500 from 1971 to 2011, you would have seen an annual return of ~10.1%, so honestly even though it sounds like a lot it's not that huge an appreciation. But the plot twist here is inflation; Carlos says that the price it sold at in 1979 was the "equivalent" of 200k (presumably in 2011 dollars at the time of second sale), so with an annual average inflation rate of ~4.4%, that's actually an annual inflation-adjusted real return on the violin of 16% compared to 5.7% in the market, so pretty dope! Thanks for coming to my ted talk lmao

Interesting (as opposed to iNtErEsTiNg! 😊) I was wondering, if the prices for top instruments have increased at that rate, who is raking in the money? Answer, it seems, nobody is making an outrageous profit - given that the cost of trading in these instruments is clearly very high, as is the cost (insurance, security etc) of keeping them, or lending them to soloists. I was surprised Carlos revealed anything about when he would be travelling with the Da Vinci.

Thanks for the analysis! 16% is wonderful but I think the best return is being able to enjoy and play your investment. You can't do that by investing money in the index. But yes, as pointed out above, you need to factor in maintenance, repairs/restoration, insurance, auction house fees (I don't know about Tarisio but Sotheby's and Christie's is a good chunk of percentage), etc. That said, it may not cost the difference between 16% and 5.7%. From an investment standpoint, would it be easier to estimate return from investing in the index fund or in a Strad? Also, if somehow the Strad was stolen or destroyed, how much is the insurance payout? How would they evaluate the value? I think for anyone to invest in instruments, they probably have an appreciation (no pun intended) for music.

It is fascinating how times have changed, when a KZbin channel can bring a big value to an international and leading auction house. Most of the audience watching these videos are like me, with a passion for classical music but without being a very accomplished violinist. The extraordinary aspect of this channel is that also world class violinists like Hilary Hahn, next generation like Chloe Chau and even the older generation like Maxim Vengerov, also watch this channel. A not unlikely scenario is that a wealthy collector and investor buys the "da Vinci" and then lend it to a prodigy like Chloe Chau. If she continues to develop and become one of the world's great violinist, then it is a winning formula: famous violin + famous violinist = even more famous violin. Kudos to you guys for creating a niche channel, that actually has an impact in the traditional world of classical music!

I’m in no means even 1% knowledgable about violins, but the sound when they played was so beautiful. It really did sound different from their own violins and ones they’ve used before. Very excited to know who’ll buy and hear them play it.

Twoset has become very well known. When they do actually play seriously, they are incredible players. Furthermore, their knowledge about violin history, makers, & music is impressive. You can tell it's not been coached within the last few minutes, for the video. As is their appreciation for the artwork of the violins, & fear of hurting them. This is an incredible video: well done, Brett and Eddie!

Holy shit that excerpt of Tchaik in 11:06 was mind blowing. I never heard Brett play it like that 🤯🤯🤯 it's so flowy and graceful. His violin usually makes it sound so strong and passionate but it also sounds chaotic sometimes. Jsjsksks i dont have words. I think their visit to Curtis also helped bc I can see him applying the gradual increase in ✨expressivo✨ in there.

Didn't realize until the end of the video that I was grinning through the whole thing. I'm not a violinist, but seeing these treasured works of art and hearing the sounds they can produce even with someone who hasn't had the chance to learn the instrument's voice is just a precious gift. Brett, Eddy, and Carlos were all radiating pure joy the entire time, Brett and Eddy for seeing and holding these treasures in person, and Carlos for having such appreciative and passionate visitors. The whole video was truly and simply a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing this experience with us!

I am a piano person, through and through. My first and last love. That said... The "golden age" Stradivarius' sound is out of this world. The beauty of it was clear even on my smartphone speaker. I am so pleased for both of you that you had the opportunity to play upon it. I extend my gratitude to its stewards over the many, many years, and that includes Tarisio. This is the best kind of collaboration: commercial benefit, personal benefit, and sharing it all.

I seriously cannot overstate the amount of awe I feel at the opportunities you guys have had. Both with your Curtis vid, and with this one, the things you both have been able to achieve are becoming legendary. It's so impressive, and inspirational. I hope your channel continues for many years. ❤️ Also, I was very impressed with your guide. Hearing his wish that whoever eventually owns the Strad ensures that it is played by someone, and not just stored away as a 'collectible', is so telling about his character. The whole place was very impressive to see. They obviously care very much about what they are doing and the instruments they are working with. Nice to see that it's not just about the money, even though it is a business. Major thanks to your entire team for the fascinating content you provide!
