Thank you for these lessons Wayne! KZbin is lacking in this type of "big idea" mandolin instruction. Plenty of song tutorials, but nothing like your lessons.

Well said Dustin! Perfectly sums up what I'm tryin to accomplish with this channel.....THANK YOU There is a HUGE difference between "memorizing songs" and learning to play the mandolin......

That lower on the hog break you played is one of the best breaks that has ever been played on a mandolin in my opinion i will never forget the first time i heard you play it as usual tremendous lesson thank you very much

I agree with you that song was written by one of them most talented and gifted songwriters that ever lived. I remember when I wrote that song. I wrote it for my mama while she was in prison for knife fight'n. It really meant a lot to her. She like that song so much that at her request they played that song at her lynch'n. The song is so moving even the wardens eyes weld up with tears

Man I remember watching you play "Lower on the Hog" and just being mesmerized! The other one that really got me was that whole tone triplet run on "East TN Blues" on Back to the Mac. I can't tell you how long I worked on those, haha. Thanks for making this video!

Good lesson Wayne. Thanks for your time. I have been teaching my grandson guitar, and some mandolin which I am still learning myself, lol. I told him the same thing you said in this video. Man! If I would have had youtube back when I was young (almost 57) I think I would been a much better musician than I am. I learned like you did. The hard way. I think I'm getting to old to become a really good mandolin player but I really enjoy the instrument. Should have picked it up years ago.

Having those VCR tapes was certainly a big leap forward compared to generations that had AM radio. We're all part of evolution! Thx for the kind words and good luck with your grandson.....

Hey Wayne, how are dur'n? Howse your mama nd dem? I was just fun'n a little brother. I really appreciate and love watching and learning from you. Would you please teach us how to play the song you play as your intro? It would be so fantastic if you could at least share the tab for both the mandolin and guitar parts. That would be fun to play with my buddy on the front porch. Also, friend, where could we find backing sound tracks similar to to the music you use as the opening to your videos? Tracks along the lines you used would be great to practice against. There are so many ways quality backing tracks that don't already have the passages in the so full that they leave no voids to be filled or flourished aren't to be found everywhere. I drove about two and a half hours one way at 4am this morning to spend the day with my closest friend today. On the way there and back I sung very old Christian Christmas song; but, the only recognizable thing between the original and the way I explored to make them refreshed and from my own heart was to use the exact words in these wonderful songs and let the tempo form the under-pinning that supports the rest of the new structure I was trying to invent to give body to the way I wanted to make these songs be my own while rather than listeners instantly recognizing the songs then fall into the rut of hearing the song in their heads in the way everyone has heard it all our lives which unfortunately has had the effect of making these wonderful songs loose their message because their melodies have become a cliche. My attempts are to avoid the cliche trap be voicing different melodies, vocal phrasing, musical scores and keys. I gave some examples to my friend while we hung out in the shade woods wayyy out in the wilderness as I gave her intermediate skill level lessons on defensive handgun shooting drills and tactics. She liked the way giving those wonderful old Christian Christmas standards breathed new life into them. Applying a folk/mild jazz flavor to the ones I've started working on first drew her into listening closely to the freshness of the words rather than just shutting them out.

Thx for the comment Plant Bro. I don't have tab available for any of my intro tunes or I would certainly share it with you. Believe me, the list of people interested in learning those intros would be very short......

@@waynesworldofmandolin3616 that's a shame that you think that not very many people would be interested and learning how to play the intro songs I think they're beautiful I really do need of those songs on any of your CDs that you play and that you have for sale or however you're selling music nowadays link download stuff like that I don't know do you have music like that for sale that youve played?
