My biggest complaint with the Jakks line is that they were scaled weirdly. You have a 6in Rodan and Ghidora but no Godzilla in that scale. Then there was the 12in Godzilla that had no other titans in that size. And finally a huge 24in Godzilla that is in scale with absolutely nothing else. Missed opportunity. The play value wasn't strong because the figure sizes were so different so there was no demand from children and the adult collectors had better choices and ended up buying these figures when they went on clearance.

I think Kevin popping off easily is an intended feature, since that's the head Godzilla ripped off in the movie, and the joint is placed higher up than the other two necks, presumably so you could take off just a little bit of the neck along with the head. I also think Playmates gets a bad rap in the Godzilla community from that one awful Shin Godzilla figure they did, the GvK figures they did are excellent. Oh, and something else I forgot to mention is that King Ghidorah's tails are actually on ball joints, not swivels.

Kids don't care if their Godzilla has every pore on his face individually painted and shaded and enough articulation to suck his own dick, they just want something they can smash through their little LEGO buildings (I know because that's exactly how I was when I was a kid with my Godzilla toys). Judging the Playmates toys by the standards of the several-hundred-dollar, limited-run SH MonsterArts figures (which I've seen a lot of people unironically do) is ridiculously unfair. I would have loved the Playmates figures when I was growing up, they're really solid. They're not trying to be anything more than simple little toys for kids to play with, and it makes me really mad when collectors complain that a product that's not made for them isn't tailored to what they want in a Godzilla figure.

Yeah, the Playmates Figures for Godzilla vs. Kong were way better. They’re really fun to play with and the battle damage is a cool play feature. Jakks did a weak job for King Of The Monsters. Edit: Don't even get me started with Walmart. They have been extremely horrible with their Toy Marketing for Godzilla vs Kong. No offical date, no announcement, and the employees clearly don't care about the toys.

Jakks Pacific Godzilla line is good for customizing and kit bashing. Other than that, I don't have much use for them. I picked up a Jakks 12" tall Godzilla 2019 cheap (missing tail) and plan on using it's spines/feet on a Neca 2014 12" Godzilla. Upgrading it to 2019 KoTM.

Film toy line vs film toy line, yes, Playmates has blown Jakk’s Pacific out of the water. The only real saving grace for the KOTM line was NECA coming in and making some really cool figures to supplement the weak output from JP. I didn’t like the scale from JP either, and frankly, the figures felt cheap. I suppose it was somewhat forgivable because the toys weren’t super expensive. The only two figures I enjoyed, though not without caveats, were the big 20” Godzilla, which I actually think is even better than Playmates’ Giant 11” Godzilla, (though not as good as Playmates’ electronic Mega 13” Godzilla) and JP’s 6” Ghidorah. Ghidorah had nice features for a $15 toy, and I liked the removable heads. The problem, however, which was the same issue with their 6” Rodan, were the wing attachment designs. They broke quite easily, and in such a way that they were nearly impossible to fix by glueing. In fact, doing so took away the flapping articulation. It was very frustrating. So, yes, I think even without NECA helping them, Playmates has absolutely done better. Because not only do they have their GVK line, but also their Godzilla and Kong “classic” line. Even though, yes, some of those figures really suck.

I got the three mini play sets & the rodan for $5 clearance at Walmart so my bias for the Jakks figures made me just double take & have to remind myself that they retailed for $15 or so. I personally own Kong Skull Crawler Gorosaurus Mecha Goji & the recolored darker mecha goji. They’re epic! Story time: One day I went to Walmart wasn’t planning on buying anything and then I saw that the Godzilla vs Kong figures were there and that the wave 2 figures were out. So I went to look at them not really expecting to buy any of them. The first one that caught my eye was the mechagodzilla figure and as soon as I saw that I knew that I was gonna buy it, but I didn’t want to just get the mecha g figure because I felt like I needed to have some sort of a decent display with it. So I decided I was gonna get a godzilla figure with it because i was team godzilla all the way. So I was gonna get the godzilla with the radio tower because i personally think it looks much better than the one with the full transparent dorsal plates. So I grabbed the godzilla figure but then I saw that they also had the Hong Kong figures and in my mind I thought “this godzilla looks bloody awesome” so I put the other godzilla back. Then I debated on whether or not to got a kong figure aswell to complete the trio but I decided that I would just get him another day along with the radio tower godzilla. I had the money to get the four figures but I decided to stick with just the two figures I already decided to get and if I liked them enough I would get the other two. Plus I wanted to get the kong with the battle axe and the only kong that were there were the kong with the plane and the hong kong kong which I didn’t really like the look of. So I got home unboxed the figures and was fairly surprised at how good the figures were so I decided that the next time I went to Walmart I would get the other two figures. After a while I didn’t like the Hong Kong godzilla as much as I did before because it was super inaccurate and mine came with some weird stains on it. I decided to pay no mind to it because I was gonna get a different godzilla figure soon anyway and then the Hong Kong godzilla would just be put to display afterwards. I looked up some reviews of the figures afterwards to see what other people thought of them and many people were saying how it was so hard to find the figures in stores and that the figures were going for like $40 on eBay. I felt bad for them but wasn’t worried about me having trouble finding the figures since I had gone to Walmart pretty late in the day and the shelf was pretty much entirely full so I figured that not many people in my area were interested in the figures. So I went back to Walmart a few days afterwards to get the rest of the figures I wanted but when I got there I saw that the special godzilla vs kong shelf was already replaced with something else so I went to go look for where the figures were moved too. It wasn’t too hard to find where they were moved too but when I found it it was very empty. The only figure left was a Hong Kong godzilla figure and one of the giant kong figures. I thought to myself that maybe since the movie came out more kids were interested in getting the figures so I just decided to go back the next day since they would most likely restock them by then. I went back to Walmart the next day and still nothing. I decided to ask one of the workers who was my friends brother if they had any of the figures in the back. He went to go look but he said they were completely out. I decided to look on the Walmart app to see if any store had any of the figures I stock but they were all sold out. I decided to look on mercari where I do all my online shopping to see if there were any listings for the figures. There were many but they all had jacked up prices and big delivery fees. I decided that it’s not worth paying triple the amount for a figure. So now I’m pretty sure I’m never gonna find the figures I’m looking for at a decent price. At least I was able to get a mechagodzilla because that’s the best figure in my opinion. Moral of the story is too not hesitate with your decisions because you might not be able to change your decision later.

Its just like Hasbro with Jurassic World They thought it would sell regardless, so they shipped out crap, it didn't sell, and they ended up losing the license to somebody else, who then made proper quality figures that sold like hot cakes

Toho is a company that makes movies (obviously), however like many other movie companies they make merch, and since they own popular characters they give permission for other companies to use their characters. Playmates which is the company that made the toys, had to get permission from Toho AND Legendary since they used Legendary’s design and Toho’s character.
