Rules as written, Solar's redeploy takes place before 1st turn is decided: THE COLLEGIATE ASTROLEX After both players have deployed their armies, select up to three Astra Militarum units from your army and redeploy them. If it were to work as Nick played it, the wording would need to be something like " at the start of the first battle round, before the first turn begins" like how it is on the Scouts rule.

It’s a small point and probably didn’t effect this game at all, but Mandrakes don’t actually have the deepstrike ability. They have Infiltrators, and then can use their fade away ability to slip away into reserves and then come back deep-strike style. Just means that if they start the game off the table, then they have to come onto the board as standard reserves, which I believe they did this game.

That's why you see high level deldar players put them in the very back corners in deployment as they cannot start off the board without coming within 6 turn 2

When facing indirect fire, starting off or in reserve is a calculated risk

@jtmcdowell2331 they also have stealth which helps. And deployment will depend on what I know my oppo ent is bringing. If they have a lot of good indirect potential, I'd pull them into reserves to start, but given that skysplinter threat comes from the vehicles, people won't bat an eye at the mandrakes that early

Nick always has a positive attitude, but underneath he must be sceaming at the dice gods. His opponents always seem to make 5 out 6 invulnerable saves. Poor guy

I need some help with the rules (who doesnt) Im thinking of making a Khorn Daemons army, and they have the shadow of chaos ability, which specifies when i control at least half of the objectives in no mans land, so if i send a unit within range of an objective, and they are uncontested, do i then get to benefit from shadow of chaos? Or do I have to wait until my next command phase to officially "control" the point?

Guard really needs to grow up and replace the horse with light vehicles. Capture Enemy Outpost really needs a redraw if drawn turn 1 rule. Wow, both your set piece vehicles shot like crap turn 1. I think that Sentinel has to be the Guard MVP, tanking so many things and only going down to an exploding Tantalus. Overall a good game.

talk about a close game. Was rooting for Nick all the way. How do Guard players feel about the order system? is it fun to use, clunky or something else? i'm considering starting guard or nids and trying to get opinions on those armies.

Long time guard player. Make tokens for your orders so you remember what orders are given. The guard is very good if you have good synergies but in order to have good synergies and not have the match take all day you need to remember the rules.

Guard are one of the hardest armies to build lists for and play well on the tabletop. If you're not a die hard guard fan it can be a bit of a slog sometimes, especially with the learning curve involved. If you want a horde army that is more forgiving then Nids are a great choice.
