Hahah, hell yeah! What's funny about that is that you can only imagine the kind of gaming would be possible on game consoles when the PS4 classic comes out. In 20 years, I would expect that it'd be 4k with ray tracing. We should see games running high resolutions with full global illumination, reflections, refraction, shadows, lighting and ray traced ambient occlusion. Games will pretty much look on-par with movie visual effects today. Yes I know technically the new RTX cards from NVIDIA offer ray tracing, but it's still quite limited in how you can use it right now. You can only do 10 billion rays per second with AI denoising on the fastest card (10 gigarays), so you have to pick your poison carefully... Do you want to spend those rays on reflections, or do you want to use it for global illumination (which is in my opinion the best use of those rays, but that's just me). In the future, I would expect that developers would have a lot more freedom to implement a lot of different effects. Unfortunately, I'm not expecting this tech to show up on consoles in the next generation as it's simply too expensive due to the increased GPU die size as it requires brand new physical hardware as you're literally implementing a brand new kind of GPU into the same die as your existing rasterisation hardware. You also need hardware tensor (matrix multiply & accumulation) hardware to compensate for the low number of rays, though I suppose you could use some kind of temporal algorithm to do the same thing. Back onto the topic of a PS4 classic. A lot of people might think a PS4 classic is unrealistic, but with the amount of investment in x86 architecture, those CPUs might even still be around in 20 years, and no emulation would even be required. Essentially, you'd just put a really low powered x86 CPU/GPU combo, get the OS running, and you have a classic system.

The implication that Sony is copying anyone when Nintendo can't float an original IP or get any sort of original input from third party developers is laughable. There is no way Nintendo would even allow cross play by the way, they have always been hostile to collaboration with other developers; not that anyone wants to play Mario and squid painting games with a bunch of 12 year olds anyway. But hey, you got unmodabble Skyrim seven years after launch in 720p so you're making progress at least.

I absolutely love Nintendo games and some of the products they come out with but I wholeheartedly agree with Grant Keller . Lets be honest, they got decent heartwarming nostalgic games but at the end of the day, the company itself is pretty much just trash who keep rehashing the same stories and games that we've been playing since we were babies. I still support modernization of the games but Nintendo definitely off the rail. They may be in the works of modernizing their classic games but that isn't an original idea at all in the very least. Sony can't be blamed for what people have already been doing before they decided to do it themselves

OMG! I can actually picture myself ripping wrapping paper open on Christmas morning to find one of these bad boys inside. Such an awesome release. I hope the complete games list pops up soon. I'm literally praying they include Apocalypse with Bruce Willis, that game was hhhuuugggeee when I was a kid, the hype was unreal. To everyone moaning here... $100 for a PlayStation console with 20 games included is a nothing price. And the games last for a great amount of time. There's hundreds of hours of gameplay here. The analog stick controllers were awesome, but Sony will no doubt put out separate controllers down the line (And they give 2 with this, meaning instant pal play. Nintendo only gave 1).

Locke, Sega did influential stuff as well. Sega did as much as nintendo or more. Back on genesis sega made sega net where you could download games, Sega made the first console online games with dreamcast, and on genesis they made something like kinect years before it. Not to mention shinning force one pretty early for strategy rpgs.

Segaalso did dlc first with dreamcast. you could get extra content for your dreamcast games online. and it was free unlike today's dlc.

@@all_hail_shadow256 Yeah, I love Sega. Great company back in the days. Nothing against them. Nintendo invented d-pad and shoulder buttons. Side-scrolling games as we know them, too. They perfected 3D gaming with Super Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time. Wii was amazing in its time. DS with its touch screen. And list goes on and on. I'm done with this conversation. As nostalgic as this makes me, I can't deny the ridiculous price. Seriously people, if you want a console to play classics, get a Raspberry Pi 3. You can find them pre loaded, pre built for the same price or less. I paid $89 for my pre built, Super Nintendo case, Raspberry Pi. Currently have 42 ps1 games on it along with thousands of other console games. You can even buy a 3D printed PS1 case for them.

I'm looking forward to get the PlayStation Classic (Europe), and I hope you guys put some really awesome games on it! I think the fact that RE1&RE2 have re-makes is even a bigger reason to give us the Original Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2, since this is a CLASSIC system after all! …and if there’s still some extra slot left, then Resident Evil 3 aswell, but RE1&RE2 are a must! Resident Evil 1,2,3, are a true PS Classic series also Final Fantasy VII,VIII,IX. Since the PlayStation Classic costs around €99, I think we should get the best PlayStation games in that 20. ^.^ It would be a big hit for sure, everyone would want one even if not for themselves, for their kids, to show them the awesome games they have grown up with, lots of adults don't even have a gaming system anymore, so they can't show it to their kids on a PS4 or something like that throught PSN store or anything like it. I hope these suggestions will make it to the team that will decide the final 20 PlayStation Classic games in Europe. This standalone PlayStation Classic could be the ultimate game collection of the Sony PlayStation era! ^.^

I believe that Cluster hack this console, like SNES mini before. After what you can download any games for PS1 from pc and play! I don't like what doing hackers with PlayStation 4 or Switch, but on this mini console only 20 games and I think we need more.

Nintendo fan who likes the original ps but I can easily say this won't be good. 20 games No MGS, Crash etc Blatant copy £100 really. I can admit the ps is good and if I was alive around that time I would have got the N64 and Ps(N64 comes first but still) I think sony became $ony around the ps3 era and they have an abundance of casual fans don't @ me. they aren't unique and Nintendo are getting their flow back with people and companies other than their fans and 2nd parties. Xbox is also getting themselves together finally. This is why $ony is my least favourite of the 3. Now show me that N64 classic. Also for those who say Nintendo wasn't the first the first to make a classic console they popularised it and $ony wouldn't have touched the idea if it wasn't for nintendo.

Maybe there should a PS1 Slim Classic, a PS2 Classic, and a PS2 Slim Classic. Maybe the PS1 Slim Classic should compete with the Saturn Mini 2, the PS2 Classic should compete with the GameCube Classic, the Dreamcast Mini, and the Xbox Classic, and the PS2 Slim Classic should compete with the Panasonic Q Classic.
